I’m pretty sure I had this same model given to me in around 2013. I know it had the same motor. Same problem. Burnt up starter, valves out of adjustment and very hard to start.

The deck was shot. I put an eBay starter on it, adjusted the valves and it started right up. I didn’t keep it long enough to see if that starter held up. I put it up for sale and a guy came right away and wanted it just for the motor; his tractor was in perfect shape but a blown motor!

Seemed like a nice tractor for mowing!

Aaron I love this mower it’s hard to believe that a 50” deck would cover that much faster but it does. It’s comfortable driving steers easy and will turn on a dime. The free price was good too!

I went from a 42” cub to the 50” Deere. I guess 8” in 10 laps is 80” so it adds up quick!

Well I’ve had this tractor for almost three years now dealing with the PTO shutting off when mowing in reverse as a safety feature. It has a factory override switch to prevent this but it don’t work. I went on YouTube last year and a guy talked about cutting a wire above the reverse linkage but you have to remove the deck. This year I went back on YouTube and another guy mentioned just unplugging the white plug above the ignition switch. I done that and it worked. It’s so much more convenient mowing in reverse now.

Do this at your own discretion it can be dangerous.

I hate that reverse switch. I put a jumper in my Deere’s switch after my first mowing with it. I couldn’t take it.

I've had 3 mowers with that stupid switch! Hate that thing also. All have a fender shifter with a switch where the lever goes into reverse. Just unplugging that switch worked for them.

My cubs had that switch also. Along screwdriver down through the slot, bent that spring switch out of the way and no more issues. me screwdriver will return the switch to operational again. Pulling the connector on the switch would be easier IF you can get at the connector. Both on mine were on GT's not LT tractors.

My Kubota has a red button on the dash. When I engage the pto I push the button for reverse and leave it in reverse mode. It flashes red the entire time but allows me to mow the entire yard using reverse whenever needed.

A piece of duct tape over that knob will stop the flashing, Rick---LOL!

My dad’s 1994 Ford Ranger he gave me before he passed away had so much glue residue over the check engine light I had a hard time cleaning it off. Dad kept a piece of black electrical tape over the light. Lol

Sounds like you should have just put fresh tape over it then, Jim---LOL!

At first I thought there was a problem with the PTO, then I realized it only shut off when I went in reverse and it had the switch. As far as I’m concerned, that’s just unnecessary wear on the PTO. None of mine have an override switch.

Ford rangers just need to see the engine is there. They will run forever.

In the 25 years my Ranger has been been on the road I imagine it has had the check engine light on more than it has been off

After I would shut my PTO off and on several times in wouldn’t engage for a few minutes, so annoying. I read the relays get hot and also it can burn the clutch up.
