Got some snow tried out the PK & Case snowcaster

Ok. Got to the tractor and son and I discovered that the belt jumped off a idler pulley and wrapped its self around the electric pto clutch. So belt not broke. Adjust the idler and put the belt back on. Seems to be fine now. Next storm will tell the tale. Yes an electric clutch, not manual. This tractor has been worked on in the past by who knows. And many things repaired and stuff changed. And measured the belt and it’s 81.5 “ long Gary. I got to try a couple of passes with it after the repairs and it throws snow good. Just as good as my 1970 JD 140 tractor with the very same type of snow thrower. Only it’s a 46”. But auger and design all the same. And the Case moves right along, faster than the Deere while doing its removal. That Onan engine has got a bunch of power.

Sounds good if the belt didn't wrapped too tight it should be ok and since you did a couple of passes and its working good it should be ok, yes they do a good job I'm happy with mine and yes the Onan's do have good power and torque and they like gas too ;)

Hey Noel have you gotten any more snow to use the Case on? This morning I got the PK out with the case blower and did some clean up in front of the shop doors then cleaned up some where the City plows and leaves a ridge was very pleased with how the blower was handling the deeper snow really was taking power had to shift way down and throttle up but it kept going and blowing.
Hay Chris did you get your blower repaired after the rock throwing contest??? :p

Had it out today Gary. No new snow to speak of. So tryed it in some old packed snow that fell off of the steel roof, about two weeks ago.

The good, it worked good, impressed with the power and traction. Snow caster worked well. I don’t like the drive system on the tractor. To slow or to fast. Hard to control. Other than that, it will heave the snow.

The bad, our own fault I think. The idler spring broke. Then the belt fetched up in the plastic fan. Did a little damage. Then the idler arm fell down while driving forward, caught in the ground and bent up the shaft.

A good day of fun and aggravation, any way that’s the way it goes.

Any pictures of your idler spring set up Gary. This one is not original, I would say, and like to fix it up better.

Noel

Did some sand blasting on the front wheels I’m gunna use on the Case. Next is primer , paint, tires. Then the fronts will be done.

Video of it snow clearing on, real garden tractors, on Facebook. If you do that.

That a bummer to have things like that happen but I've been there to you just make repairs and move on right. I'll post what pictures I have of the mule drive idlers don't have a picture of the spring but will look in another place

I think the more you use it the more your going to like it. :)
I have to get the auger straightened on mine yet. Too many projects. Don't know how I got anything done when I was working.
Hi Chris I was wondering how the bower repair was coming along have you gotten much snow laterly? I've been thinking about the spout extension you did to yours does it help?

Lookin good Gary. I’m thinking about a chute extension also and maybe make it a little smaller, around 6 or 7” diameter, on the snow caster. Some day. Have not got to use it much to get a feel for it yet. Not much snow and the two times I use it, we had break downs.

Hi Noel Chris posted a picture last spring I think of and extenstion he made using some poly it was about the same diameter but longet I'll look to see if I can find it, I've thougt to about necking it down some how

Some pictures of what I did with my LGT 165 Ford snowthrower Gary, to change the chute. The blower had this chute on it, then I changed to a thrower, it had a bent up chute. So I used the chute off the blower on the thrower. Both chutes are the same on the blower or thrower. The chute on my John Deere thrower is the same too. This type of chute was used on a lot of tractor blowers, throwers and on walk behind machines. Any way, I wanted to change it because to me the angle that it’s on would slow the snow down. I wanted a taller and more gradual curve on the chute so the snow would not slow down. I used a chute off a noma, canadiana walk behind snowblower and adapted it to the ford thrower. Added top defector adjustment too. Throws farther and higher, plus more control. Most blowers, throwers are a six inch opening. So I didn’t have to change any diameter sizes. Both the old and upgraded one are 6” size. Snow casters are 8” opening, so a little thinkin will be required to adapt 6 or 7” chute to the 8” opening on the case snow caster. Ariens walk behind snowthrowers have a tall gradual type chute, and the colour is simaliar. Hehe.

Thanks for posting the pictures Chris this time I saved them I never found them back from you prior posting, the second picture sure shows it moving snow really good is that after speeding up the auger/blower, I have thought about that mod but the 14 has all it wants the way it is and I'm happy with the way its working, when I get done with my 58 CS work I'm going to look into the schute mod
