Looking at a Cub

Our neighbor at work, same one who found me the deal on my 882, found me a deal on a Farmall Cub a guy he knows is selling. He first told me about it in July, and sent me these pictures. Then I never heard anything else until Monday, he came in and said he talked to the guy and asked if I was still interested. I’m meeting them there at 4:00 to look at it. It is at a dairy farm that I drive by everyday, I never knew it was in the barn. I don’t really know much about it yet, but it has been sitting for a while. I have always wanted one of these.

Had one once. If they had live pto and hydraulics they'd be great..
Rated around 14 hp. Mine had a 6' homemade mower which worked great so long as you didn't have many start/stop and have to turn real sharp.. Didn't work out for me when It started getting to much to mow around.

This tractor has been on the farm since it was new, but the property it’s on was split up at one time, and the tractor stayed with it. I looked up the serial number, it’s a 1950. The guy said it ran great, he mowed with it for years. He drove it to where it sits, so it shouldn’t need too much work to get it running. The only reason he stopped using it was because he got a good deal on a Cub Cadet Lo Boy for mowing. It comes with everything in the pictures, plus a snow plow, gang reel mower, a big lime spreader, and some spare parts. I only got one more picture.

This one does have a hydraulic lift. I don’t really have much use for PTO attachments at this time, so that shouldn’t really be a problem for me.
Hope he gives you a good enough deal to take it home, Cub! Pretty cool old tractor!

He’s asking more than I wanted to pay, but I think I can talk him down some. I told him I would think about it for a few days. I don’t really have much use for most of the attachments, so I could always sell some and make some money back. I think I’m going to take it.

If it was parked inside after its last use and it was in decent shape, then it should be pretty easy to get it going again. That said, if he wants a premium for it, he should at least have it running so you can test drive it, otherwise as the buyer you not sure just what you are getting. It really comes down to what you are comfortable with. As with all of these old tractors, what shape the rear tires are in can be a lot of the value. Good luck on your negotiations.

From what I've seen you should consider keeping the attachments. The package is attractive to a lot of buyers. Another good investment is a gallon of paint. Put it on the tractor and attachments not on the shelf. ;)

I brought it home yesterday. It last ran about 5 years ago. Shouldn’t be too hard to get it running. It has a bit of rust and wear, but overall, I’d say it’s in pretty good shape for 72 years old. I think most of the paint is original. The tires are holding air, for now at least. I got the plow blade, and some small parts for now. Once the ground dries up enough so I can get the trailer down to the barn, I’ll go back for the rest of the attachments.

I just found this post but alright woohoo, congratulations on the new Cub Nick. I'm happy for ya!! I wish I can get one of those and I would LOVE to have one, but I have no room to store one because it will not fit in my shed ha ha. I know it maybe too soon to ask and I'm sorry but do you plan to keep it original or restore it? In my opinion I would keep that plow just in case you wanna go to a local plow day

Thanks. It sounds like you need a bigger shed. I like restored tractors, but I also like original, so I’m not sure yet. For now I’m just going to get it running and use it as is, but it may get restored someday.

I fully agree with ya on a bigger shed ha ha, yeah I do need a bigger one. I want SO many tractors but I got nowhere to put em that's the problem, but the main problem is that our backyard ain't even half an acre. I again agree with ya on liking restored and original tractors because I do too, so I would leave it alone as you said, just get it running, bring it to some shows and pulls and plow days (obviously if you're into that type a stuff like me.) I should of just left my 6 horse project 855 Craftsman alone instead of restoring it but it's too late now, plus I want it to match my other one. The next tractor I get will be the one that will be left alone. Anyway again congratulations best of luck with it, and keep us updated on what you do with it. I'll be following.

Good looking Cub and lots of interesting implements, looks like a drop seeder / lime-fertilizer spreader
Thanks Gary. He said it was a lime spreader. Not sure what I’m going to do with it, it’s big.

We have 13 acres, I can always find somewhere to put stuff. But, I hate leaving things sit outside if I don’t have to. Between my toys and my dads, our garage is completely full plus a tent shed. I would like to start taking some tractors to shows, and plow days.

I picked up the 2 plows and reel mowers yesterday. I’m planning on going back for another load of attachments next weekend. There will be an update on the tractor coming soon. I have been working on it, and just have a few more small things to do before it’s ready to try starting it, possibly this week sometime.
