on my snow thrower for the LGT 165 Ford Tractor. It worked good last year. So since it worked good, I modified the chute. Less of a curve and taller. Then added the power window thing on the top defector. Then added two more throwing paddles to the auger. All was good. But still needed paint. Which I’ve been gunna do all summer but didn’t. So today was the day for a quick brush job. Looks alright.

Yep, my dad did the same with our Ford Maverick, got all the body work done and ready for paint by mid July. He would paint it in the morning and let the hot sunny July day dry and bake the finish on. They looked good, some shiny. As he would say, get some dirt on it and driving down the road at 60, nobody would know the difference.

Painted some of the thrower hook up parts today. And the type of paint I used.

I have a IH thrower that needs paint bad but so does the tractor. When it warms up they both will get a brush job, mainly because I got Valspar paint that cannot be thined or sprayed, brush only. So will use a good brush and have at it.
Valspar can be thinned with mineral spirits however I’d use reducer to thin for faster drying time.
Only one independent hardware store around here carries Valspar. They carry big selection of spray cans but you better like black, green or white if you want quart cans
Using a high quality brush makes a world of difference. Done right there will be no brush strokes.
My brother is pro painter, he got me to buy $20 brush., no more $1 brushes for painting:thumbs:

I painted signs for a living for 30 some years and the brush is the most important tool. Using Penetrol in the paint also helps with the gloss and smoothness of the finished product. I still use it on signs and wipe my rusty old '55 GMC down with it now and then too!

Looks like your paint works great Noel, looking forward to seeing the pics on the tractor!

I used Penetrol to bring back the luster on a old fibreglass boat seasonally.

Never heard of Flood. Seems some people use it straight from the can for some kind of protection. Does this dry hard when using straight . ? Reading a little about it I thought it's only to be mixed( in with) paint.? My first thought was that this was just a thinner of some sort. I'm going have to get some now just to play with it.

It says right on the can "Do not thin" & that is what I was going by. 41° this morning so not doing any painting for a while - week at least before it gets back up to painting temp. Will give me some time to round up some Penetrol. Menard's may have it.

My friend was Sign painter at the university who introduced me to Penetrol

New president at university made her first decision on a whim. Change the color of the universities signs??? My friend told me there’s got to be a thousand signs. Plenty of thought went into that decision:rolleyes:
