Things seemed to have dried up

not going on FB these days is kinda like the people who wouldnt go on a computer 20 years ago... you cant say there is nothing available if you refuse to look where the majority of sellers advertise... prices are often better on fb also

I agree and disagree. I stay away from facebook...I haven't had an account there for 7 years or so. Never see much good come from it. My wife is on there. Tries to buy and sell stuff on the market place...ends up annoyed just like I do on craigslist....

Yes Facebook is no different than Craigslist or kijiji up here, in that respect. Selling is more aggravation than it’s worth lol

like it or not ebay is pushing off all of the small volume sellers that sell this kind of stuff and odd and unusual collectibles hobby. they want you to stop selling and leave they make no money off you. they want high volume wholesalers to compete with amazon

Totally agree with Lance Skene.

Facebook is running over with the unusual stuff. The availability hasn't changed - the advertising method has.
Agreed. FB does for you what you set it up for. I see a lot of interesting things listed there. Just a marketing tool of this decade, next decade it will be considered old school and people will move to the next platform.

Hey each to their own... but the topic here is about availability... are things drying up... no they are not... people are just using a differant media to advertise.. you either follow along or you miss out, its that simple. Since the onset of FB buy/sell groups these old tractors are coming up for sale far more often and since they are more common they are also getting cheaper. I buy/sell 20+ tractors every year and I rarely drive more than an hour to pick them up.

I agree lance, prices are getting alot cheaper and I rarely travel more than 45min, to pick up decent stuff.

Might be more of a regional thing. While I don't think things are real hard to find I do see their prices very high. Again I think most don't really care if they sell or not. I often see the same thing over and over for months on end...

Buying 20+ tractors a year at these prices and trying to sell and making something would be a long stretch around this neck of woods.

I'll have to take a closer look as I did not see any buy/sell groups.

About Facebook though, it is great for keeping up with friends, relatives, buying/selling etc...Plus, there are all these groups.

What I have found though, is thats very hard to keep track of anything. Plus all your personal friends, relatives keep getting all your posts that you put on your groups etc. They may not have the same interests. So, what I have done is have an account with my real name for all my personal stuff (Friends, family)
Then, I have another account with a different name (same first name, surname slightly different) for all my tractor groups and other hobby groups I have. That way, its not so muddled together.

They say that the forums are dying because of Facebook etc....I can't see it, as it's so much easier to find past problems and tech stuff on a forum. Just sayin'

All the same tech talk and comaraderie that happens on the forums also happens on the FB sites... but on a larger scale... and in many cases with the very same people... FB didnt exsist when many of us got involved with tractors and began joining forums... h3ll the internet didnt exsist when I got started on tractors... if you wanted to buy a tractor you had to read the classified ads in the local newspaper.

Biggest problem with FB is the extended time it takes to try and find something I am intersted in. "Market Place" is so full of junk like baby clothes, dishes, wore out furniture, etc.. Never could figure out how to get to these "Forums" people talk about. The way I look at it is FB people have a whole lot more free time than I want to take, like weeks or months to learn how to navigate the place. I'l stick to these kind of forums & CL. No drama etc to work through either. People get addicted to FB and think that is the only way to live and communicate.

While it is full of a lot junk you just use the " search " function at the top of their page and it bring up exactly what you're looking for...

Plus, if you look at certain items, Facebook notices that and then "suggests" items along the same lines for you. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending how you look at it.
I was looking for a car for my grand daughter, a certain type.....Ever since, guess what is being suggested to me on Marketplace?......lol
