I watched the scrap yards for a while and finally got all the parts to build one, if time isn't a issue that will save you some money that way.
Probably April 1973 if that number was from the right top of the transmission case next to the right wheel. No tiller clutch in that year.I got a few more pics and what I believe are the #'s off it. At the back of the gear housing cover is (best I can make out);

None of that showed up when I searched for parts for the one above.Yes MTD bought out Troy built and you can buy a new horse size today.
they also make one under their own MTD Name so at Do It Best Hardwares. That Bronze gear is most likely the same.
