My Lincoln 140 is starting to have wire feeding issues. It doesn't come out smooth and sometimes it gets stuck. My buddy replaced the liner when I bought it from him last year. Is it the liner again ? If so should I buy a new liner or replace the whole torch since it seen some use ?

I've had issues when the wire gets alittle rusty and makes pushing difficult ( making your liner dirty).
Are you feed rollers slipping. Maybe try tightening them up a bit.
Also try another tip.

My 15 year old Air Liquide mig does that with 24 gauge solid wire so I quit using the 24. Not really sure of the issue so I only use 30 or 35 solid wire, its other gremlin is now and then wire will continuous feed so I shut welder off for 20 minutes and its fine. The continuous feed is a issue with a sticking something or other in the electronics.

I've run solid wire in my Miller 175 for 15 years and I always have the felt pad folded and retained on the wire with a butterfly paper clip where it enters the liner. About once a year I pull the wire back out of the liner remove the lead from the machine, remove the tip and blow it out.

I use the felt too. There's also a wire lubricate I use to soak the felt for lube in the liner...

I always keep the felt dry, it's there to wipe off dust, etc. IMO if you lube the felt then when it's time to blow out the liner the stuff won't blow out so easily. Probably will have to remove the liner and wash it in solvent. And that tiny bit of oil might affect welds.
Mike
Yea you would think that but this stuff is made for just purpose.

I'll stick with dry wire since it seems to have worked for me through 5 10 lb rolls. Maybe bbuckler needs some 'cause maybe the wire is squeaking going through the liner.

Don't shoot the messenger. Just pasting information along.
Use at your own discretion.
Not criticizing Just passing along information. In the professional field things are different in many ways. The wire is seldom out of the packaging for more than a few hours before it is a finished weld. No time to rust or collect dust. The welders often do nothing else but burn wire or rod, with that kind of experience they will often detect, identify and correct a problem before the average person would even know there was a problem. Welding around a home shop is a completely different ball game. Don

It's all good. Sometimes we don't think something should work and find it actually does.

Been a Steamfitter myself for 30 + years so I've been around the block too. ;)

One thing that just came to mind! If you tighten the nut to tight at the spool, it may not feed right. You want just enough tension there to keep the spool from unwinding on it's own.

May be stating the obvious here... are you using the right rollers? For solid wires the rollers should be smooth V-groove and for flux-cored wired it should be knurled V-grooved to provide more traction with less pressure.

I never knew that it worked fine for a year with the v groove but I will find the one it needs
