Both throwing the snocaster belt. 446 won’t stay in float and the drive lever won’t stay in position.
So on to the John Deere after dinner and see how long it works.
Update later, maybe.

John Deere to the rescue. Worked to clear the snow. First real run since engine rebuild in the summer. Worked good. But not quite enough load on engine to see if the trouble I was having is fixed. So far so good. And heated seat worked. Not real hot, but could feel it a bit thru the seat cover.

So it been suggested to me to put correct springs on the snocasters. And yes the ones on mine are not correct. Sooo, ya just can’t go to a store around here and buy correct springs. A fella gave me the dimensions of a correct spring. Found springs for sale on Internet and they are $14.00 and up plus shipping, each spring.
So I found a spring here and made two springs. May not be correct either. And may have to get the new ones. Any way , the springs I made are basically the same as the dimensions I got. So I’ll try that. First picture is of a correct spring, next two pictures are of my two springs.

I got the spring on the 446 and the 224, and had the 446 out in the snow doing some removal. Lasted a little longer, but off she goes. So I don’t know. Not much sense trying the 224. It won’t work either, I would say. Rain and warmer this weekend, so the snow will be gone any way. Will have to wait a while to try again. Groan. Fairly simple system, but don’t work.

By looking at your pictures I'm not sure what those springs actually serve ?
Help take weight off of blower ?
Tension on belts ?

Noel, how did you bend the loops on the springs (they look pretty good). I've never had great luck doing so without breaking or heating a bit.

Going a little farther on your belt tension springs would it be possible to but a solid screw type adjuster in place of the spring ? Imagine a turnbuckle or such.

Heated the springs hot enough to bend them Bill. Trouble with that is, it takes the spring out of the first two or so loops and seems to make the steel brittle.
Well the tension changes when the thrower starts. The spring moves a bit, then when the thrower is lifted the tension gets greater so the spring moves a lot then.

Fairly simple system. And should work. Others do. Just my normal luck. Have two of them and both throwing the belt off.
I could order new spring and belts from the case site dealers, in the US, but that would be pricy. And my luck would be that it wouldn’t fix it.
You know, the pulleys are lined up well, when you spin the thrower by hand, every thing looks normal. So I don’t know. If it was brand new tractor and thrower, it would work. So what’s the difference now. Belts ? May go to princess auto and get belts there. They have the blue Kevlar type belts there. I have the specs of the size of belt need, from the Case site. The old belts fit good. So I don’t know.
Son said to me the other day , just fooling, he said, sell them all and get a Kioti tractor. Hehe. That would be nice, but, not going to happen. Hehe, wouldn’t get enough money out of all the tractors and attachments to pay for the tax on a Kioti. Hehe.

There now, my morning rambling. Have a good day members.
