Well Ladies and Gentleman what can you tell me about this tractor,Going on the auction block tomorrow and I am INTERESTED!!!

Oh I am like anybody else that likes a bargain,I love to get it as cheap as possible but part of me always feels bad for the sellers in auctions like this.I am paid hundreds of dollars or thousands in some cases for a day of work,I am supposed to make the seller as much as possible for their items but sometimes it doesnt work out and ya feel a little guilty in a way I guess,If I get something that is quite valuable for really nothing I will ask the seller if they want the Item back,Most do say NO however. and I guess they could have set a reserve price also ,,,But I do enjoy my trophies though!!
I forget you are in that kind of work also so I understand your thought.
Honestly I do feel bad for the people who had owned the stuff knowing their only getting penny's on the dollar sometimes. I could be that person someday.

I really am begining to think its time for a heavier trailer,She was about maxed out I think with this load,Blew a tire on the way home,That sucked but she made the 45 mile trip back,I thought that 990 was heavy but the 475 john deere is a tank with the 4 wheel steering!

I think alot of these "auction" companies should be investigated. I hear this again and again. they scam alot if families out of their valuables, little advertising and have their buddies show up to buy and to not bid over each other, then they all resell it later.

I think a trailer with bigger tires is in order! Those poor little tires were probably going 180 MPH with that load!

I've often wondered about that myself. But I've been to the other auction where stuff goes for more than it cost new....

I committed a major crime on those poor tires also.We got the trailer loaded and the tires were kinda sqishy so what else do ya do???Why of course you add air till they arent squishy right!!They probably had 100 plus PSI in them! When I inspected the tire expecting a big hole in it because it sounded like it completely blew I found NO hole or tear,The bead had failed and the wire they use in constructing the bead was wrapped around the inside of the rim,The brand of tire was HI-RUN that I bought and put on this spring. They cost $45 with the rim and inflated at our local farm store

While I could give specific instances on that very auctioneer, I will say that nothing is selling good at auctions around here lately. I watched a $300,000 [new] motorhome that should have brought $75,000+ easy, bring $18,000 last week and good running farm tractors that should bring $1500-$2000 are bringing $150-$400. Bad time to be selling even though the economy is good here.

I will give you guys my opinion on the auctioneers they are churning out now days {1} they all suck,,Get the oldest auctioneer you can find in YOUR area.Out of the area auctioneers cannot draw the crowd a local one can and the wont get the prices a local one will.(2)Go to a few auctions of theirs to see what they actually do,How they set it up ,Is the sale easy to locate items or is it in a mound on a trailer or pallets on the ground,The new way of auctioneering is to get with the family ,Get the sale ,Advertise and show up the day of the sale with a "crew",Sell it and charge 25 to 35% and go on to the next one.The family does all the work trying to get something like a sale together and it is a dismal failure because they dont even know what will sell for anything so everything goes for nothing,The auction company should come in a few days prior to the sale with boxes and tables and trailers and 2 to 4 workers experienced in auction set up to get your sale ready,These workers should be or like myself and my wife, Appraisers. Also at least 1 should be a ring man for the sale,That way someone can lay out the sale for speed of sale and the value of the sale.I am an appraiser and professional ringman and auctioneer. My wife is an appraiser and professional ringman and clerk.(3) If the "Auctioneer "looks over your sale and offers to just buy it all then he will sell it later ,RUN AWAY.You are losing 50 to 75% of the value as soon as you agree to it,He is not "Helping you out"in any way shape or form.He simply see"s $$$$$$ ,The same goes if they want to buy an item prior to the sale because it will not sell well here,Its $$$ for him not you.$ I will tell you to expect to pay $1,500 or a little more for advertising,That is in the loal papers that will cover a circle of 150 miles from your sale and you expect to see it online at NO additional cost and that will also cover COLORED sale bills to disperse .On an average house hold sale with a good line of tools and yard equipment expect to pay a commission of up to 35% for a top of the line crew with an average of 10 to 20% on everything except vehicles and other titled assets over $5,000 They should average 10 % and real estate Average on that is 3 to 10% depending on the value,The more its worth the less of a commission should be charged,(4)Do NOT use an auctioneer who uses a buyers premium. That only hurts your sale and puts more $$$ in the auctioneers pocket,It hurts your sale because people dont like to pay that so quite a few folks wont come.(5 )This is a big one here,Get it ALL in writing,If the auctioneer doesnt have a contract you both sign prior to the sale laying out ALL the services and All the expenses right down to the porta pots, DO NOT USE THEM,Find a real auctioneer,A businessman! And remember to NEGOTIATE your sale with them,The commission in most sales does not go to anyone but the AUCTIONEER and that is a percentage on the sale total before expenses,You will pay for extra auctioneers and all ringman ,All clerks All cashiers and the porta pots and the advertising what ever that ends out costing.Percentages can be negotiated and should be.(5)Make sure they have a quality food service or can get one,DO NOT use social groups,(Churches ,4 H ,Girl scouts ect)Nothing against them but they are not insured and are not certified in food handleing and make people sick. This can get you sued believe it or not! Also they always run out of food and drinks,This simple thing can KILL a sale on a hot or cool day,Ask to see the food service guys menu and expect them or better yet demand their trailer is there and in place the day prior to the sale,This should be no problem for a reputelbe food service and worries you less for sale day.

Sorry so long and maybe uninteresting but I wanted to throw it out there,You wouldnt believe all there is to haveing an auction. I hate seeing people screwed over by auctioneer wanna bees,I told you guys a while ago I was thinking of getting out of the auction business,DECEMBER 8 is my and my wifes last auction,We are retireing if you will from that life and concentrating on our own businesses,(Small engine shop and thrift store),I will still ring or auctioneer if another auctioneer needs help once and awhile but am glad to be getting out of it,We will be regular auction goers because our businesses require it but that is a lot different than working a sale!

You are correct!!Sales are way down all over

Great scores Reed, and you did everything you could do to get the stuff home! If it sacrificed a tire on the little trailer, so be it! Get a better trailer when you can.

Back in the sixties I used to go to a consignment auction barn with Mom once a week. Mom would get mad about the same guys always bidding stuff up but never buying anything. Sometimes one of the suspect guys would buy something but the same item would be back in the auction again the next week! She always suspected a racket of some kind. She bought me a couple of blown-up Toro push mowers for a buck one time to give me something to take apart and learn about what was inside engines. It definitely fueled my interest so I'm sure grateful to her for that!

There have been estate auction scandals around this area at times and even charges pressed but it seems the same companies that had issues always come right back, so hopefully they vindicated themselves as honest auction companies.

om would get mad about the same guys always bidding stuff up but never buying anything.

We were at an auction one time and my Son was interested in a pickup. When the bidding started not much was happening so my Son placed a bid. As soon as he bid the ring man would acknowledge another bid so the Son would bid again. As I couldn't see another bidder I asked the Auctioneer who we were bidding against? You could tell he didn't like this but he snapped back that it was a guy over there. Told him I didn't see anyone bidding. Then he says it's a phone bidder. So I asked him, who is holding the phone? No answer. I told my Son he was bidding against the Rafter Brothers and he should let them have the truck. To my way of thinking if an auctioneer is bold enough to pull that kind of stunt then I should be bold enough to call him on it. I hate crooks.

Once I was bidding on a 2 bottom plow. There were 3 guys who I KNEW were part of this auction firm that were bidding against me. So once they got me to the max I was willing to give, I turned my back and walked away. I turned back just as the bidding ended with no more bids, and you should have seen the look on their faces! Priceless! I just smiled at them and walked on! LOL

I used to work for an auction in the 80s, and still attend many. One of the most popular auctioneers I see, has said that "if you see my ring men bidding, they are customers too"...…. sometimes the auctioneer wants something in the sale for themselves and is the fairest way to gauge a fair price. but yeah I agree, I have seen the same thing, someone in the audience bidding against themselves basically.... or someone "planted" in the audience to "jack the bid" over an unannounced reserve. I've been asked to do that myself, I don't/won't.
