Well Ladies and Gentleman what can you tell me about this tractor,Going on the auction block tomorrow and I am INTERESTED!!!

I've stuck a couple of them with the item.
I did that to a Scalper one time which wasn't my intention. I was bidding on an "AR" John Deere. Some of the neighbors gathered around me and told me what the guy was up to. They started chanting "bid again". When he got stuck with the tractor a bunch of us in the crowd were laughing and he was pretty upset. I guess his thinking was if he couldn't get it no one else was going to get it for a fair price. I still don't know who the guy was but I sure got the impression he wasn't well liked.

My limited experience with auctioneers is that most will try to get that extra bid. And horse sales are crooked! A few times a group of us would try to pull a good one on the auctioneer or the ringman, whoever was the prick that night. The look on their faces when they realized what happened 5 minute later. Usually the rest of the sale would go much more honestly.

Good scores Reed you did well. I love my 990 their a tank. I have read the skid steer tires are a good fit but too hard to flex for good traction. With the 15" wheels tires ags are expensive. I'm thinking of getting used deep lug truck tires.

Shorty, what do you mean by try to pull a good one on them what would you guys do ?

I must be lucky for the few I've went to they were all straight up and mostly locals.

Have preplanned bidding on a few items by various people in different parts of the crowd. Run it a bid or two then drop out. Gives fast bidding then nothing and it's a no sale cause everyone stayed under the reserve. After that the auctioneer was scared to pull a fake bid cause he could get stuck.

I used to work for an auction in the 80s, and still attend many. One of the most popular auctioneers I see, has said that "if you see my ring men bidding, they are customers too"...…. sometimes the auctioneer wants something in the sale for themselves and is the fairest way to gauge a fair price. but yeah I agree, I have seen the same thing, someone in the audience bidding against themselves basically.... or someone "planted" in the audience to "jack the bid" over an unannounced reserve. I've been asked to do that myself, I don't/won't.
There's one that does that around here, no problem if they want it and aren't just bidding it up that's fine, I've been through the whole "ghost bidding" crap as well. Biggest thing around here is guys bidding there own stuff back because most companies won't give reserves.

I am not going to say that your wrong in setting an auctioneer straight as some of them are incredibly crooked but beware,By doing that in the way you describe with help from your friends is a felony in most states and is relatively easy to prove as most auctions now days are recorded by a camera somewhere. Most of the ones we work are recorded.,Its called Bid rigging and is a felony charge,Its the same if you and a buddy or two decide to work together to buy something cheaper by one of you not bidding against the other,Most of the time No one is goig to say a word about it we just wont take your bid anymore the rest of the day or maybe for several auctions as a punishment.BUT if an auctioneer or the family or especially a business he is serving catches on you could be in a huge pot of hot water! Just to be clear I do understand and agree with you on why you would try to "Stick" an auctioneer with an item,I have done it myself when being run on a bid unfairly but do be careful,I myself will run the bid if we have a reserve but only to that amount that covers the reserve. Most of the time we have NO reserves because we dont allow them

I had no idea that agreeing with a friend to not bid against him was a problem. The auctionear at the auction I generaly go to has told people. "You know you are bidding against your partner right". The purpose of an auction is to turn the property into cash in the quickest and most efficient way possible. People who think the auctioneer is working for them are deluded. He is doing it for the money and is going to do what is best for his bottom line. Being criminal in the long run is not profitable. Don

I don't make any such agreements, I've had friends not bid just to be nice, but I was fully expecting them to bid against me. Imo letting sellers run there stuff up should fall into the bid rigging category, this is rampant around here with many sellers hauling half their stuff back home.

We have had that problem also at times and it isnt tolorated by us,We will pull the sellers in to a quick private meeting and remind them they are under contract to sell and that kind of behavior will kill a sale and wont be tolerated by us.I have seen Norman(the guy I work with most of the time) stop a sale because of this and pack up and go home because the sellers wouldnt quit in a private sale,In a consignment type sale it is difficult at times to stop people from doing that. That is why he wont do consignment sales

A good auctioneer IS working for the family and himself because higher prices not only look good for the auctioneer but line his pockets faster than cheap prices,Many auctioneers now days dont seem to get this eqasion!

G Tractor knows one of the auctioneers I work with and he is the KING of air bids,I am pretty sure he would agree with me on that,I myself dont condone nor practice air bidding,If you have the money bid than you have the money ,If you dont then dont pretend like you do.That ticks me off as well! The auctioneer in question has run the bid on me because he knew I wanted the item and I have hung him with it.
