What did you do with your tractor today?

Worked on my 6 horsepower Craftsman after my accident today, its actually not as bad as I originally thought. I took the seat off and you can see the difference of where it is damaged and how it is NOT supposed to look, and how it is ok and how it IS supposed to look. I also took the bent fender off too, and you can also see the difference between how its bent as to where its not…..

Today I was feeling well enough to do some badly needed tree trimming. Silver Maple’s are nice trees but their limbs like to hang down and smack the person mowing in the face.
Got out the Onan generator and the pole saw and went to work. I can reach about 12’ up with the saw extended which works nicely until you get more than 15 degs. off to the side. Then the saw gets heavy in a hurry.
The generator is working good and the saw doesn’t faze it. Running at only 1800 rpm a gallon of gas seems to last a long time. It’s nice and quiet which is a plus. I have it mounted on a heavy duty pallet and moved it around with the forks on the tractor.

Used the mobility scooter and yard trailer to pick up some branches and a chunk of rotton cottonwood limb that fell out of a tree and landed in the ditch out front. Looks like it was a squirrel's home at one time.

Then I rolled up 100' of soaker hose and put it in the trailer and rolled up the hose feeding it. Blew compressed air through all the hoses to get rid of some of the water.

Then the GT5000 got fired up to mow. It did a lot nicer job of mowing than the last time I used it so the fight with that deck leveling helped.

Believe it or not, the front yard was covered with leaves. This tractor mulches leaves real well. Forgot to take a before picture. This is also looking down the strip of new grass that was planted mid summer. It is on it's own now! No more water from me!

Was a damm dirty job with the 35mph+ wind. Tried to discharge downwind much as possible but there is always the return trip to contend with.

My old Sears GT needed some attention and today was the day. The governor has been acting up and only wanted to run at 1/3 throttle. After watching a couple of U-toob videos I came to the conclusion that the little spring had stretched. All the linkage on these old Briggs singles are nicely hidden and out of reach. Thankfully I was just able to reach the tab at one end of the spring and bend it enough to get the throttle to come up to about 3/4 which is good enough. This originally had an 18hp twin but my son needed that engine so I installed this 11hp single with electric start and it has worked nicely.
Years ago after installing a hydraulic lift on this I had made a spring tooth harrow for it. Mounted the teeth too close together and it ended up being more of a rake than a harrow. Today I took 1/2 of the teeth off and attached them to a second bar behind the first. Staggered them and now it works like a charm. The front weight really helps with the turning in loose dirt. That was the last project. IMG_0826.jpegIt

My MF7 right tire kept losing air, I had time to look at it today. Soapy water showed outer bead having 2 small leaks. Broke down the outer bead enough to brush on some bead sealer on the rim, remounted the tire and moved the tractor to the back yard. I may put the snow blower on it vs the MF8 but to do that i need to mount up the shelf for the rear weight bucket. It will be tight to have the MF12 and blower in the garage. I may just go get the walk behind JD blower from my storage unit to have more room in the garage.
I also moved the Economy to the back yard. I had to replace the key switch again, I was only getting power to the coil in start position. Junk parts, the bad key switch was new and put it in the first of Sept. Glad I ordered a replacement. I also worked on the JD deck for the Allis GT.
