What to do grass not growing its hot

NE breeze stay with us and we got the mowing done. Didn't mow the biggest East piece as it catches a lot of sun. Two tractor mowers, 42" & 50". Carolyn does the trimming around her flower, etc. & dog pen. JD #62 self propelled so takes a lot of work out of it.

Cut my grass at home today with the Yardworks tractor. I lifted the height from the setting of three, to four. No idea what that is in inches of grass height. It was a quick cut as it was looking like rain was gunna start any minute. And there was a heavy mist. Any way. All grass cut in both locations, sons and mine, until this time next week.

I have not found out what the numbers mean on that Bolens/MTD, Yardworks, whatever it is either. No numbers on the MF12G but I have always mowed with it at the deck's highest setting. We live in a former hay field so there is no real grass. Still whatever kind of grass a hay field might be and some patches of clover. My wife mowed the half acre next door on 5 and when she came over she figured out to lower the deck. She went to 3 and it seemed to match the 12G cut just fine. Probably won't do a Mowing Monday report. Not growing much at all.

Those number on the deck height adjustment are reference points, no more. Don't represent inches of length of cut or anything else. 90% of the decks I have been around cut a bunch lower than necessary, about like a golf green looks. Both of my wide frame Cubs have the cam type infinite adjustment and they both will cut to short. 50C decks don't like to cut to high though as they don't pick up the wheel tracks. High lift blades help but not in all situations. I would like to be able to raise my deck higher but it is topped out now so that won't happen.

I'm in total envy of you guys that are getting rain.
Was looking at the crops and some of the corn and soybeans are looking bad. Very stunted. For some reason our corn is over 6ft. tall and looks pretty good. Just hoping it produces some ears.
