GMC, They Said
Senior Member
My 2017 Sierra has 50K miles and the brakes have been bothering me for some time. It has had a pulsating issue that is getting worse.

I sent off to an online company for new Raybestos rotors and pads. After 10 days, I checked with the company and they said they had not been paid and as soon as they got the money, they would deliver. I checked with my bank, and they said that the money had been issued the day I ordered it. I had paid with PayPal and said bank suggested I complain to them. Bank contacted seller who said they would send my order. After several days I received a package and proceeded to start the brake repairs.

(Here is where the story starts to get crazy!) Upon opening the package, I find they only sent the two rear rotors and the front brake pads.

PayPal now realizes they are not cooperating. They are told to either send the parts or refund $363.11. After which I am told to return the parts at my expense ($90).

I am now waiting for another shoe to drop. I have purposely avoided mentioning the name of the company who is the subject of this post. I believe this website frowns on product bashing, and rightly so. If anyone is concerned, you can PM me.

Doesn't sound like rock auto
I order from them often and never see a problem.
Let us know who.
So we don't mistakenly order there.
I've bought from a couple of shady companies over the years and "not" received what id bought before and had to get the source of the money involved (bank, Cc etc) as well but can't remember the names, they weren't "big name" places

The one issue I had with a scammer, Paypal would not do anything for me. I set up an appointment the next day with the bank. I took all my information and emails. The bank cancelled the transaction with Paypal refunded my money and for my assurance go me setup with a new checking account.

Capitol One has what they call a virtual credit card. Credit card information is given to a company, (not the correct info) When this fake card is use by a valid company authorized to use that card it will liked back to the OEM card. If card is issued to a company, no individual person even from that company can use it. So far it has worked out good. Each company I do business with has a separate virtual card, amount charged is checked against the amount bill and then sent through. This has worked good for me.

I order from RockAuto or Amazon..always have to check prices of course. Neither has ever caused me any issues however to return parts or cores is on the customer and return shipping costs my last caliper was $55,,,for a $57 dollar core..so thats not happening..
Shipping costs are a big factor in choosing supplier.

If there's a core involved I always buy local, over the counter. Because the core shipping and refund process complicates things when done by mail.
But if there's no core I buy a lot from rock auto and eBay. And especially with Rock auto I make sure to get my shipping $$worth. I order stuff for the next job next week sort of thing. What I hate is when I can't get everything I want in the brands I pick from one warehouse. When I go to check out if there's a "shipping A" and "shipping B" I shuffle things around to eliminate "shipping B". And often when I take things out of the cart and go back to the listing to see what I can get all out of one warehouse (change some of what I'm after to a different brand that "shipping"A" has to eliminate"shipping B". now all of a sudden, it pulls something out of my original "shipping A" cart, and separates it into a "shipping B or even a "C".... If I have a decent size order sometimes it still pays to get some of what I need from a "B" or even a "C" because often times with their price for a part even with extra shipping is still cheaper than the same exact thing here in town...

Is there an advantage to using PayPal versus just a credit card ?
I think there is, Bill. I don't like repeatedly having to give credit card info on the net. I have been using PayPal at least 20 years and never had anyone hack or any problems like that. No fees either. Credit cards are a whole 'nuther story! Seems like our bank catches hackers a couple times a year. Never lost any money but it is a pain in the @$$ to have to renew cards at places that don't take PayPal.

Capitol One Credit Card has what they call a virtual card. Once created for a vendor, you real card is not used again for that vendor. Not sure on all the ins and outs of how it operates (Hi Tech Stuff) but sure seems to work for me. Does take a bit longer to complete checkup but worth it for the safety feature. Carolyn has a debit card and has had to get a new one twice now.

Never had trouble with Paypal so not going to worry about it until there is problems.
