What did you do with your tractor today?

Today was the first time in almost 2 weeks it was dry enough to cut grass, it was really tall. I used the 149.

About 10 minutes before I was done, it stopped moving, a pin in the driveshaft broke. Easy fix luckily. All I had were roll pins, not spiral pins like it should have. I know it’s not going to last, but it worked long enough to finish mowing. I will get the correct pin. I think it’s time for a whole new driveshaft, there is a lot of slop in the front and rear couplers.

I put my 1 1/2 old grandson on the seat of my Husqvarna mower today. He might someday mow the yard for me. His 4 yr brother was sleeping. He was supposed to be as well but would not.

So I was trying to keep him away from his brother getting his beauty sleep :)

You call that tall grass?

We’ve had so much rain with short periods of sunshine I feel you can almost watch the grass grow. I have an acre around the house that’s needed cut twice a week. I have two other field areas that I normally only cut every other week but not this year. I had to replace my drive belt on my Cub LT 1050. That 50” deck is about all I can handle moving it around.

Those 50" decks are a load at times. Have one under the IH 782. But then when I have to drag the GT 54" out from under the Cub 1862 that is a real load. Front deck wheels dolly but the back ones are straight forward all the time and that is not the way the deck has to come out.

My GT5000 has a 54" deck. I pulled it out from under the tractor once to inspect it right after I hauled it home. Don't ever want to do that again---LOL! The 42" deck is so simple to pull out from under the MF12G. Seems with my tractors, the newer they are, the more difficult they are to unhook the links.

My issue is not with the two back locking links but with the weight of the deck to drag it sideways 5 feet to get it free of the tractor.

My fight with the craftsman isn't dragging it, Rog. I have smooth concrete in the shop. Getting to the links and pulling the pins draws blood! Not just the rear links, all of them in that thing! Not a floating deck so it doesn't drop far when the tractor is lifted.

Good thing that tractor was a freebie!

My deck carries on wheels on the 4 corners and has the anti scalp rollers front and back center. I use a floor jack under the front of the mule drive after the back to pins are pulled. Jack it up good and can get the3 deck worked out under the front wheels. Not a bad set up and is the same on the smaller deck of that era for the wide frames. Just takes some man power to drag it against the stationary wheel on the back. Haven't had it off in a couple years now. Use the Fisher mower lift under the front wheel and that gets it up plenty high to change blades or power wash it out with the variable angle nozzle set up. The pins on this on are 2 U shaped spring loaded. Pull and twist to hold them out. Get close to lined up and turn them back to the hole and give the front of the deck a shove and the usually snap back in the locked position. Have to take the belt off the pulleys on the mule drive to get the slack need for the operation though.
