MF 1450

It sounded like this new to you LT is in better shape than Carolyn's? Might be worth doing the engine swap soon as you figure if the newer one is in good shape other than the engine. That K321 has sounded like it wants to ventilate itself since I got it running and after I overhauled it, it didn't sound any better. Now this situation is making me dislike bigger Kohler single cylinders quite a bit. The K181 in the JD 110 purrs like a kitten but was in as bad of shape when I got it.

Ranting again---sorry!

Got the Cub home but still on the trailer. Took the engine cover off, then the starter. Starter still won't turn. Used a small pry bar on the flywheel gears against the ignition coil mounting post on both sides and it would not budge. Locked up solid. Courage Kohler engine. Think I will unload it in the machine shed for the winter and see what shakes out next spring. Would have to swap hood and engine as there is some air intake moldings that have to go with a Briggs engine. Might get another engine and use Carolyn's as a donkey around here and put that little Bolens 775 in storage.

What HP is that Kohler, Rog?

Those have no "courage", worse engine Kohler ever made, most become boat anchors.

DAC, I talked to a buddy who pulls with the flathead Kohler K engines, he was to make sure the condenser is good and that is attached to the Negative side of the coil. He's found this is usually the main culprit of running issues as long as coil and points are good. I slapped one on my Onan last week, it will now actually run decent and not die when I rev it up.
The flywheel has no effect on timing either, he said many don't even have a key in them.

Oil was full and looked good. Lot of black oil, etc all over under the engine cover. Melted area near the right side hinge on the hood. He said it got hot and melted it. Mouse nest? First thing I thought of but no indication with the cover off. Head fins looked clean other than oil soaked.
