Allis deck on to the Country Squire

Went into the shop this afternoon after I watered the flowers and fabbed up a latch to hold the PTO control lever down to disengage the deck letting it up engages the deck checked it out and it works good, next is to build a lift assembly then it will be to move deck forward about 2 inches coming along good

Looked at how to move the deck forward 2 inches, my idea was to bolt a couple of 3/8" X 3" flat straps to the mount, after looking it over discovered that won't work as the deck hitch arm widen an won't clear the mounts. When I added the hitch mount I got in a hurry and weled them in place vs drilling and bolting ( my first plan) that would have made it a little easier now I have to grind the weld off the mounts getting at the front side will be easy but the back side is going to be fun. This will probably wait until this fall I really don't need a lift for now as I only go out of the shop start mowing and when done it back into the shop. I'll work on fabricating a lift assemble and have that in place even with the deck as it is it can be lifted a couple of inches

Well after mowing at the shop started looking at moving the deck forward and ten got working on it ground the welds off and moved the hitch mount tabs forward about 2" reinstalled the hitch on the CS slide the deck under the tractor and wouldn't you know it the deck couldn't be raised high enough to get the pins in by moving it forward it hit the CS hitch assy but I could see that I could cut off some of the metal and it would then fit (maybe). Removed the hitch again used the Oxy torch and cut off at an angle ground it down smooth reinstalled and it worked. Now I just have to figure out the right length belt and it will be in business again

After picking up or supplies from Walmart I stopped at Fleet Farm and got a new pruning shears and a couple of V belts I wanted a 4L920 it was out of stock of course so took a 4L910 and a 4L900 the 4L900 was too short the 4L910 works it should be a bit longer a 4L920 would be just right but will use the 4L910 for now. Now its to fabricate a lift system and the make the minor repairs and paint the deck

A member on another group asked about the hand grip for the lift lever on the CS & Economy tractors at the time I didn't have an answer to give him but another member came up with an idea some coke boddle bicycle grips listed on ebay so I ordered a set they came today they are 7/8" ID and the lever is 3/4" so I wrapped the lever with duck tape enlarged the end hole to slip over the return spring and slipped it in place

I just finished mowing around the shop this morning have put 7 hours on the deck it cuts good but a week ago or so I had the deck off and power washed it and found that the deck top between the spindles is really rotted out, so I looked on FB market place and a fellow in the Twin Cities had a newer 42" deck for sale pictures of it looked good so I asked my son if he'd go look at it and if good pick it up for me and he said he would, I contacted the seller and told him my son wouldcome and look at it and pick it up. Yesterday my Son said he went and looked and it was pretty good he found one small crack but its at his place so when he comes up again I'll get it installed. He thinks its a heavier deck than my old one as he helped me pickup and move the old one and he said the newer one was heaver

About 10 days ago my son brought the Simplicity deck up and we got it into the shop looked it over quick looks ok and yes it has a crack in the center front top of the deck. I've been working on the deck on & off for about a week now turns out it had a few more issues besides the crack, the center and LH spindle bearings are shot got the spindles out press them apart and got new bearings installed, I just happened to have 4 new ones on the shelf reinstalled the spindles the turn nice and smooth now. Welded the crack asked on the FB Simplicity group and its common for these decks to crack in that area, removed the bail assembly got the adjusting clevis ends off and cleaned up the LF one required heating red hot itll it was just about completely off for some reason it and the threads were rusted a lot, got it all cleaned up and painted it this afternoon. The rear adjuster links were also froze up and again the hot wrench did its magic and they are cleaned up painted and reinstalled. Spot painted the deck where I welded the crack, will finish reassembling it in the next couple of days. Not sure I'll get a chance to give it a test run as we have had no rain to amount to anything for over a month and the grass is just not growing.

Nice job Gary it looks like a good match up. Several obstacles solved too. I noticed your spindles mount beneath the deck. On my 3415H they did as well but my center spindle went bad. I took the spindles off my 7117H and they are mounted on the top of the deck. It took me awhile but I got it converted to work well.
