Blowing snow with the PK and the Case snowcaster

Some where I read or was told that the square / rectangle chute improves throwing distance, I tend to go along as all newer blower use that system walk behind and tractor mounted
I'm sure there's some logic there but they seem to plug up pretty easily , especially in wetter snows.. Many of the older Craftsman / MTD brands were like that.
Most newer ones are round that I've seen.

I’ve heard of that adjustment Gary, on the Case throwers. Moving the auger closer to the bucket. Can’t see it doing any thing. My John Deere thrower is built basically the same as the Case throwers. No adjustment to move the auger back or ahead on it. It’s got a 6” chute opening and it throws good.

I think it improves the effectiveness of the auger and of course it will move the blower paddles closer to the bucket

Got to be some reasoning that the manufacturers keep a distance on the paddles. Maybe because of stones getting jammed and constantly breaking share bolts (and worse) would be my guess.

Well I know for sure if you run into a buried chuck of 3"X3" X 16" angle iron that there are no shear pins in a case snowcaster at least not mine, but it did pop the drive belt off. Having learned that I'm determined not to do it again

As far as I know there is no shear pins in a Case thrower. But there is in the John Deere thrower.

Had the PK and snowcaster out this afternoon to clear the snow from between a couple of trailers and to the shop LP tank, it was at least 10 to 12" deep and the bottom couple of inches was wet and sticky and heavy boy did that make the 14 hp grunt could really use a couple more horses, and the snow was really flying got it done more I use it the more I like it

a 361????? Lol... Noel your sucker for punishment.... good luck finding a 361 where the valve seats havent already fallen out... those are ticking bombs and many never servived their first 10 years of service. I think Kohler gave up on them after just two years of production.

Kohler k361 Gary. Great that it worked good. Even a k 341 would be better than the k321.
Pictures ?

Hi Noel I have a running K341 sitting in the shop it would be a drop in replacement but I'm not overly ambitious you maybe we won't get much more snow this winter o_O now your all thinking he's delusional also

Lance my 1618 PK has a K361 in it and it runs perfect 990+ hours on it never been opened dons't use a drop of oil between 25 hr oil changes, But every fall/winter I remove the cylinder head cooling tins and clean them and the cylinder fins make sure there's no oil leaks and the head bolts are tight, I'm also well aware of the problems with the engine and it was a short production run

Didn’t think the k361’s all could be bad.

ya well... if you have a running 361 I strongly recommend you replace the head with a modern billet head before bits and pieces of the oem head start breaking off and falling into the cylinder ruining the walls and piston... and in the end the block itself because they dont have much room to rebore.... they are now 40+ yrs old... its not IF... but WHEN. The valve seats will come loose, the head will be damaged, and it was the reason Kohler ended them after such short production... but hey, good luck with it.
