Homemade with leftovers

The sides of the dash column were not even to each other. After measuring, marking, measuring again and cutting the sides are trimmed up and equal. That will make it easier to close off the front side.I will make that panel removable.
Broke out the grinder and wire brush to clean up the dash column. It is currently painted and drying while I watch the race.

I need to update this thread . It has been hit and miss lately about getting to the shop. And when I am there it is hit ot miss if I do much.
After installing the steering column I was able to measure and order hydraulic hoses. Tried to get them made locally but it was VERY expensive. Found a company in Pennsylvania that made and shipped them for less than half of what a local outfit wanted. I got two hoses for the feed and return to the steering motor. I liked them so much I ordered two new hoses for the steering cylinder
Sorry no pics.

After doing the steering I worked on connecting the rear brakes. The original brake rods were 7 1/2” too long. I removed the extra length, beveled the ends, butt welded it together and welded a sleeve over the weld joint. Installed them and adjusted them. Hopefully the are correct. When I get it running I will be able to see if the linkage timing is such that it puts the hydro into neutral before the brakes grab hold.

Went to the shop this afternoon. I installed a new fuel line, shut-off, and filter.
While looking at the carb/air filter I had an idea. Since I do not have the original upper housing for the filter I needed something.
Just outside the office door is a display of hub caps. One of which is a baby moon. One reason it is hanging there is that a previous owner drilled a hole in the center of it. I polished it and hung it up where i could use it as a mirror and see who had pulled into the drive or was driving the alley if I was in the office. Some 1/4x20 all thread, a coupling nut, and a wing nut gives me a cover for the air filter.

I have been sporadic about working on this, and not taking any pictures.
Sorry!
I had been having an issue about turning the pump fast enough. The belt would slip and start smoking. I was about to give up and put on a chain and sprockets. The rotation on the engine is counter clockwise and the pump needs to be driven clockwise. I thought I had it figured out, but the it would always slip no matter how tight the belt was. After talking with the owner of a local mower shop we both had the same idea about rerouting the belt. The configuration I originally had set up was pulling the belt from an idler pulley and pushing the belt towards the driven pulley on the pump shaft and using a second idler pulley to tighten the belt.We decided that was causing a small amount of slack in the belt at the pump pulley.
After rerouting the belt so the engine pulley would pull from the pump pulley and push any slack towards an idler pulley it eliminated the slippage at the pump pulley and it turns the pump.
IT IS NOW A RUNNER!
Took it for a spin around the block. It still needs some fine tuning on the linkages, and fabbing some covers.

I have an old Rat Fink antenna topper decorating the office. Decided it would look good on this tractor.
Found a crusty piece of metal to use as a floor plate. Hit it with the wire brush and a coat of paint.
installed a couple covers for the steering column.
once I am happy with the belt situation I will make a guard for it.

I am beginning to hate the spellcheck on this IPad. It will actually change words that I enter and substitute something completely wrong. Then I have to go back and change it.:mad::mad:
It just took away the word ”Then” and changed it to “Hon”. Stupid A.I.

Rat Fink looks perfect on there, Rick! A.I. is just that, artificial!

I gave up on using a belt to drive the pump. I had the pulleys and belt but after burning up a second belt I ordered some sprockets and used some chain I already had.
A grandson was here, so he got to swap over to the chain and sprockets. I handed him the tools and a straight edge to align the sprockets. A little advice here and there and he ”got er done”. I used a turnbuckle to make a spreader bar between the two idlers. Tightened the chain and fired it up. A little more noise with the chain but not bad.
I took the first test drive, then Nicholas and Edy.

My brother-in-law has been following the progress on this lately. He and his son have been doing larger vintage tractors.
But I may have him converted. He recently bought an Ingersoll 446. One reason he stopped by was to pick my brain about the electrical system. I told him Iwas using one brain cell but he was welcome to try and get some info out of the other one.:p
when I came in from the shop I googled and printed off some wiring diagrams for him. He is color blind but should still be able to figure it out.
He started out not understanding why or what I was doing. But as I progressed he took an interest in it.
He said he could never do this with his left over parts from his larger tractors. And said to let him know about any decent garden tractors for sale.
