MTD 190-621 40" Snowblower

If it was me and I had that blower apart that far I would be adding three more paddles to that impeller. Or I would make a new one. With more than three paddles.

I'm toying with the idea of adding some rubber belting to the impeller to help it out.

I straightened the impeller. Boy are they soft. I mounted the impeller in the vice on a 3/4" shaft and used a big Cresent with a block of wood. It didn't take much effort to tweak it back into shape. I followed that with a sandblast and some epoxy primer.

Sprayed some more black. The flash always makes the paint look washed out. The last pic was no flash.

The impeller does looks quite weak! I wouldn't have thought they could use stamped metal to do this kind of parts, they are doing one hell of a hard job!

At least they are relatively simple parts, you could make or have someone make a stronger version if you often get the "blades" bent, I guess the key is to have proper angle between them and get the final part reasonably balanced

I still think the impeller should replaced or at least fixed up some. While it’s apart.
I made an impeller a few years ago for my ford blower.

I don't have the time right now as I have a tractor repair job waiting for me. I would like to try adding some belting to it, but even that is going to have to wait. I might not even get enough snow this year to try it. Last year was a bust also.

Got the blower about halfway back together. I almost forgot about modifying the shoes. I want to add some 1.5" flat bar to them so the will float over our gravel driveway.

I figure with the blower all fixed up I shouldn't be seeing any snow for years.

Here are the results of spraying the plastic chute with straight reducer. It still has some greying to it, but its a lot better than it was.

Looks good. So when it dries does it go back grey. Or does it last for a while.
I’ve used transmission fluid on car black plastic. It makes it black , but only lasts for a few weeks.

Results vary with type of plastic and how badly oxidized it is. I've used scotchbrite to help get oxidation off of plastic with OK results. If none of this works it can always be painted.

Got the blower mounted up on the tractor. The lift handle never sat right so we decided to add an extension piece to it. Just need to drill new mounting holes. Found some flat bar that should work for the shoes and started bending it into shape. A few welds and some paint and they will be ready to go.
