New project

Too bad you have to take off the front roller. Sure makes a big difference in how much scalping the deck does. Maybe the A/C mounts have some kind of front anti scalp provision? Cant see it in the pic.

There may be room to leave the roller on the front.IMG_20250928_160414592_HDR.jpgIf there is room between the 2 front mount arms.I thought the Allis deck had a front center roller underneath. The width of the JD deck is roughly 28" front to back. There is 30" between front and rear tires on the tractor, I do not see any issue getting it under the tractor.

Sometimes I get lucky with an auction purchase. I do have a JD deck that is 48" wide with a center drive pulley. View attachment 99119No comes the fun part of stripping it down and getting the Allis mounts attached to it and then repaint it white. The 2 ears on the back will have to be plasma cut off along with the front roller. The only rust hole is over by the discharge and the size of a penny. The deck mandrels need new bearings installed. The drive belt will need to be a little longer, the front of the deck to the center of pulley is 2" farther back. I did forget to measure the deck width front to back to make sure the Allis has enough wheel base.
I also put the haban sickle bar mower under the economy to see how it will fit. I need to remove the mule drive and the lift arms for a center mount mower.View attachment 99120
You got a older 46" deck for hydro drive JD. the "newer" 46" and the 48" had four gauge wheels, one at each corner. If you can adapt the rear roller from the Allis deck onto the JD deck it might be a good idea. Simplicity/Allis kind of use the roller to set the deck height, Deere just hangs the deck from the tractor frame, the gauge wheels are just there to prevent scalping when going over uneven terrain.

short day, I removed the 2 blades and the madrels from the JD deck to replace the bearings. My back said that is enough for today. I did take a quick measurement of the front deck hangers on the Allis deck and they need to go where the front roller brackets are on the JD. I need to do some better measuring to see if there may be room to mount them above the JD brackets or weld them to the JD brackets. I need to make sure the height of the mounting holes stays the same height. I also noticed the top drive pulley on the Allis is 5" diameter where the JD one is 7.5" diameter.

This afternoon was spent taking the mandrels from the JD deck. My luck must be changing all three pulleys came off easy without a puller or the press. In fact one I was able to pull off with my hand. The worst part was getting one of the snap rings that hold the bearings. I will get some bearings ordered. Here is a picture of the tag that is on the JD deck.IMG_20251003_182158599_HDR.jpg
