Last summer I went over Al's a fellow I've bought engines. snowblowers and a number of garden tractors from, to buy an old Allis GT that had a 42 in LH discharge deck that I wanted, while there he said he had a deal for me so I said ok lets look. He has a pallet with 3 Kohler cast iron horizontal shaft engines 1 14 hp K321 2 M16's he knew nothing about them and want scrape price for them . Well you guys know me by now this was a deal I couldn't pass up $50.00 for the three, unloaded them in the shop and slide them out of the way only looked them over quick, the red M16 had no carb or fuel pump, most likely had a gravity fuel system as there is a block off plate over the fuel pump mt hole, had a starter and the oil was a bit low but looked good.
So today though I'd put it on the engine run stand cranked it over it had spark (M series engines have electronic mags) installed a carb connect a fuel hose and squirted a little gas into the carb tried starting it cranked for a bit the fired off but stopped after a couple of revs tried holding the throttle open a bit and it ran and carried on so I adjusted the throttle system so it had some idle setting tried again and it started and ran a little fine tuning on the carb and holding the choke in the open position and it ran pretty good big smile. That's the good part the not so good is it has a stubby 1" long CS PTO, then engine was used in some type of mower and everything was driven off the flywheel
