Possible Hydraulic Setup?

More progress! Got the belt tensioner set up.


Tore things apart to do the finish welding.


A little cleanup after that and time for the primer.



Finish paint applied.

After the heavy dew dried some, I installed the pump bracket. Not going further until I have the hoses for it. Need 2-24" JIC 6 hoses and a 34" belt. Then I can figure out the valve mount.

I placed an order at Surplus Center for the hoses and some fittings. Once I get that, I can get to figuring out the valve mounting and location. It will be next to the seat on the RH side.

Since we have rain forecast in 5 of the next 10 days, I found a short hose that fits the pump and put it on the tractor.

How are you sealing the fill tube to the top of the pump?

It has a twist-on cap at the top. I have my hand on it in this pic:


It has a rubber grommet where the tube fits in to the pump.

Finally received my order of parts late yesterday. May get to locate the valve today!

EDIT: What fluid would be best here? Power Steering? Low-vis hyd? Give me your thoughts.

ATF will do fine and it really resists foaming.

Today was no good for working on this. Got a call early and had to rewire a tandem axle trailer (new LED lights). Took the best part of the day!

This morning I got the hoses and fittings on the valve. It's ready for a test fit.



Winds are gusting above 15 MPH and I have no wind break in that direction. If I don't get this attached to the pump today, tomorrow is supposed to be better.

Looks great, Kenny, hope the weather cooperates! I didn't get to post but I second Daniel's vote on the atf. That is what has always been put in the little hydo system on my MF8E and it's had Dexron, Mopar and Ford mixed through the years. Never knew any better 30 years ago when I got the tractor.

Well, it was cheaper to buy a gallon of Power Steering fluid. Got a fire going this morning.


Got the hoses attached to the pump.


And the belt installed!


Now to figure out the valve mounting!

Here's what I got for fluid. It was $18 a gallon compared to $5 a quart:


Attached the cylinder and my pressure gauge just for giggles:

Cylinder maxed on stroke:


Think it will work just fine. A 3.5 inch stroke cylinder takes 2 seconds or less to work.
