I use a wood pencil eraser end to do the settings on my game cam's. Had on Moultree shoot craps last year and haven't checked it out as yet. Won't be hunting that much area this year so two cams up on/near the tower stand will work fine.Well guys this year got off to a bang this summer.lol Our corn is about two weeks out so I set the trap last week. I only got one possum and no signs of a coon until this morning. This was the biggest one yet.
We have an old barn across the road. A lady down the road had 6 chickens and only 3 left now. She lets them free range 24/7 and don’t get their eggs because they are laying everywhere. They are roosting in that barn and Carol seen a big coon over the weekend go in that barn probably after the eggs. I’m hoping this is the one I got.
My trail cam is only taking daytime pics and no nighttime for some reason. I’m going to bring it in this evening and check it out. This things are definitely not old people with big fingers friendly.
Farmers shot off a lot of coyotes last winter and the rabbits are everywhere this year. I caught a little guy one evening chewing away on one of Carols flower beds. It was gulping down the flower petals like I eat potato chips.Got to get a box trap made for rabbits. They really destroyed a lot of our plants last winter. Not going to happen again.
Those dang coons probably sabotaged your trail cam Jim! I bet Carol is mad enough to sit out there in a lawn chair with a 12ga all night over this---LOL! Hope you get those destructive critters. This is crazy exactly one year later the coons have started again. Carols Indian Corn for fall deco was attacked yesterday morning. She was so mad! lol I set the box trap out again and got a mid size one this morning. They still hit the corn again so I’m sure there’s more than one. I’ve seen as many as five two years ago on my trail cam. My trail cam is not working anymore. Last year the screen turned purple and blue so I can’t program it anymore. It was gifted to me and so I didn’t loose anything. I’ll set the trap out again tonight to get rid of them before spring.
I have two types here. The funnel type works better. The old guy that taught me how to make them said he couldn't hardly keep the sparrows out of it. I put it in the back of the pole shed for storage and I'm still catching them. I can take a picture if you want. Very easy to make.I have found there is a thing called a house sparrow trap. Does anyone know how to build one???
Please do!I have two types here. The funnel type works better. The old guy that taught me how to make them said he couldn't hardly keep the sparrows out of it. I put it in the back of the pole shed for storage and I'm still catching them. I can take a picture if you want. Very easy to make.
The ones the other guy built were approximately 2' x 2' x 2' with a plywood bottom and entrance end and was covered with 1/4" hardware cloth. You could probably use 3/8 or 1x2" also. The funnel was made of of lighter screen like in a screen window or door and was about 6 or 7 inches in diameter at the entrance and about 1 1/2 inches at the other end and about 10 inches long. On his all sides were screen except the bottom. Once one Sparrow goes in it acts as a decoy and others can't wait to get in. As you can see from the remains in my which isn't even set out they like the things. I used to set the large one that George made out in the yard with no bait and pretty soon they would start trying to get in. He put a trap door in the bottom so you can empty the birds. The larger trap worked better than the one in the photo which is 1' x 1' x 2' long. It's almost like once they look in the funnel they can't turn around. You need to keep an eye on it because other birds like Finches and Wrens will want to see what's going on in there. I should build another one as the English Sparrows drive my Purple Martins nuts. I set in the pole building and shoot them off of the Martin house. Please do!
