Strongland tractor

When did the factory shut down?

People today don't want to buy something that will last them a lifetime. They want to buy something that is super cheap and may last a couple years! My local john deere dealer told me they sell 20 of the little lawn tractors for every x300 and 30 little lawn tractors for every x500. Goes to show people don't want to spend the coin!

In the late 90's they downsized several times & ended up building a few in a small rented garage. The hopes of the new "green" tractors a joint venture fell apart. Speedex started back up at that time period in Ohio but flopped. Only a couple of those were built based on the 74 frame size.

They are significantly bigger than the normal GT. I've seen them at plow days and am always impressed with their capabilities.

Nice tractors, guys.

This is a one of a kind Steel Wheel Speedex was built as a show tractor for possible Mennonite market. (Rubber tires & gasoline forbidden). Sat in the back room at Armstrong (Strongland) plant finally ending up in a barn in the middle of nowhere. After setting over 20 years I changed the oil & internal filter & dry rotted fuel lines. The Lombordini diesel started right up & ran!

I was the first to put a loader on my 1872 years ago. It was a used Kwik Way that came off a cub cadet. Rick Boltz from the plant found a way to take it off the tractor hydraulics. Hope you posts some pictures soon. My 74 series has a Kohler engine. Probably a good idea to check the bull gear fluid & change if dirty looking. If your hyd filter is behind dash (some were) area good idea to make a shield for it in case it would ever blow. Attached is a pic of one I worked on years ago. Send me a PM & I will give you some info you need to know about it.

Hey! I have a 1872 Strongland... I use it for snow removal. I have the 4’ bucket loader. I’m so happy with it. I believe it’s a 1992. My father gave it to me in 1996 with all the attachments to include snow plow, loader, 48” mower deck, single row plow and a set of disc. I have the 18 HP BRIGGS VANGUARD on mine

As I understand it Armstrong didn't buy out Speedex until 1994. I think your tractor is probably newer than 1992. Check out your engine numbers, the tractor is likely newer than the engine (unless someone replaced the engine with an older one).

I've got a Speedex 1631 with an engine that was manufactured in February 1994, so I'm pretty confident it's a 1994 build and one of the last Speedex branded tractors.

Hey all, I found one. got her running but Not sure what I should do with it. Thinking about selling it. Not sure yet. I have >2 acres and a 60" is a tad much for what I need. But man does it cut and glide. Turns sharp. Anyway, I understand these are getting scarce. I'm a little off about using it to mow knowing it's maybe better served in another role. Open to hearing some thoughts.

They've always been scarce. There weren't many made before Armstrong folded.

One of the nice things about the Strongland is it's got an actual 3 point hitch, rather than the 2 point pretending to be 3 on the Speedex tractors.

Allegedly one of the problems that led to Armstrong folding was that that engine would throw off enough heat running a 60" deck that it could melt the plastic fuel tank and catch fire. If your fuel tank is plastic I'd watch for that. You also can no longer get the correct blades for the mower deck.

If all you need it for is to mow I'd be inclined to sell it and get a better mowing machine (I like zero turn mowers). Depending on your location you could probably get $1,500 or more for that tractor.

Everyday that I use my 2474 I’m Happy to have it!
So pleased that it came to me when it did! My go to tractor!Keep them running Guys!
