So today I thought I would be a smart guy and change out a leaky tube. With the temps slightly above zero I would try this in the basement to avoid frostbite. How quickly I remembered how I dislike dealing with chains and breaking down tires. I got it accomplished and hopefully the new one holds. Rim was a bit rough but with more snow on the way this week, no time for a proper redo. Just sanded the worst spots.
This week gave snow that changed to rain. I had about an inch of slop with ice underneath. While scraping the drive, the poor tractor went where ever it felt like. Now I am thinking about chains for the front just to help it track better. Noodling the idea of a wide link chain say like off the web of a forage wagon.
The last snow storm barely gave us enough seat time between me and JR sharing. So several neighbors got their driveways cleared. A full 5 gallon can of gas showed up at the door of the shed a day later. It was "to big of a favor to only say thank you" I was told. It felt good to know it was appreciated that much.
A nice thank you like that feels good and let’s you know you’re appreciated. I have three elderly neighbors that myself and another neighbor take turns watching over during Winter.
It always seemed like the right thing to do. And I enjoy it. The one elderly neighbor never acknowledged how much I was doing on their place and sometimes I wondered why do I continue. Then the wife died and at her visitation when the family wondered who I was, I simply said I was a neighbor. Then the question, are you THE neighbor who did the yard work? Apparently all the family and friends were told about someone helping them.
I actually would have enjoyed an hour or so of plowing. But what a let down feeling to hear that the govenor has declared a state of emergency and schools are closed, and the roads never got white.
A nice sunny Saturday morning, and I am home. I should get some equipment out to use. Just to say I did. And then I could make a tractor related post again.
Take them out for a ride around the yard. You are just charging the batteries is all they need to know, but we all know the joy of enjoy quality time in the garage and with our “other” family!!!
