John Deere AN project

I put a new oil filter in this morning and prelubed the engine. I ran 2 qts. thru it until the oil came out the rod and main bearings. I used the oil pressure port on the governor housing to run the oil in. Once I finished adding all of the oil I installed the crankcase cover. Time for lunch.

Great way of filling the oil galleys! On older car engines with distributors pulled, I'd use an air drill with long hex rod to turn the oil pump to charge all the lines. An electric drill would almost burn up trying to fight the pressure, but an air drill couldn't be harmed if it chugged slow.

Welded up the clutch fork shaft and Dad turned it in the lathe. Set the crankshaft end play at .005. Pulled the carb and found it was just thrown together with nothing set or tight. Cleaned it in the glass bead cabinet and epoxy primed it. Drilled out the passages which were full of rust. I should get the carb back on tomorrow and we will see how much of the clutch assy get installed.

Didn't get as much done as I wanted today. Got some green sprayed on the carb and clutch parts. Installed the clutch pulley bearing and installed the assembly in the tractor. That's when the rain started so I covered things up for now. I'll see if I can get the carb back together this evening.

Found another problem today. While checking the T-bolt movement in my clutch pulley I found a couple of them were a little sticky. I pulled the pulley assy back off to clean the bolts and guide hole to get them working freely. When I looked at the backside where the clutch dogs are mounted I found one ear for the pivot pin was broken off. Looks like its been that way for awhile since its all rusty at the break point. I guess I will get set up to weld the ear back on.
