John Deere AN project

Installed the bearing retainer/cover on the first reduction gear shaft and safety wire. Then the oil pump and hooked up the oil lines. I applied some RTV to the gaskets that I was able to reuse. Gotta wait for some help with the crankshaft install.

My brother stopped by and started cracking the whip. After a good clean up of the crank and main bearing housings he helped me load the crankshaft back in the tractor. Now I need to torque and check the rod and main clearances.

Just weighed the old crank, 84.4 pounds. Not as heavy as I was expecting. I guess it feels a lot heavier when your trying to wrestle it through the side of the crankcase, that and I'm not as young as I used to be.
I'm surprised. I was guessing it would be 100 pounds or better. It would seem a lot heavier in this application... not like lifting something straight up. I know what you're saying about that "not as young as I used to be" stuff!!!

Had a few rain showers passing thru so instead of taking the tarp off the tractor I did some clean up on the first reduction cover. I had to boil the clutch dust shield in some tri-sodium phosphate, simple green, and oxy-clean to get the sludge out of it. I'm thinking I should paint it now while its off and easy to get at.
