Hill Top adventures

My 3 year old drew a picture of me. I don't catch any resemblance, but impressed with his drawing skills for his age. Got some artistic genes I don't have.

Had the day off today because the weather was supposed to be a mess. Typical Pennsylvania weather, it waited til almost dark to give a steady rain. So the wall fixing for a kitchen repaint got started. Amazing how many dings and holes pop up in a decade. I did go and finish cutting up the walnut tree I dropped on Saturday. Definitely had more energy than I did then. Only my wife is fighting the flu bug yet. Me n JR are pretty much over it now.

Continuing the kitchen facelift. Barely started and wishing I was finished. Planning to add a couple more cabinets and my wife couldn't decide how they would look the best. Got one cabinet hung the spent a long time discussing how the rest should go. Of course I look at it from a contractor's perspective and she wonders but how will that look. Just a slight clash of thought. Got it all figured out now so ready to go tomorrow evening. But the opening that I want to close off using cabinets isn't framed square, whoduthunk, gonna take a big hammer to get those cabinets in. Hopefully I can sledge it into place when the wife is away...

The calves JR is caring for are getting to that spunky energetic stage of life. They can give a few laughs at feeding time as they bounce around. This morning one got his milk bucket hooked over his head and couldn't figure out why he can't back away from it.

A nice relaxing holiday with the family. We had the traditional pork and krout dinner. Me and JR spent some time tinkering with an old rider. Stripped the fenders and hood off to give it a slight ratrod look. The muffler will likely come off just to make more noise.

The upper cabinets around the fridge always looked odd like there should have been one on the end.

So I hung another one there and it looks much better.

And there was a goofy window from the kitchen to an office. Which we were thinking of closing off. Planning to infill that opening with cabinets. I found stock size cabinets that fit in just so. Then I found the opening wasn't square. So this morning it got sledges into place. My wife was sure it wasn't going to end well, but it moved like expected.

Finished our part of a house today. Got too dark to take a picture as we finished up. But the roofers were still up on the roof using lights. A bunch of monkeys, watching them makes me feel clumsy and uncoordinated... A bunch of short guys.

This pic is from last week in the snow which disappeared in our 60° weekend.

Since we finished the house we are back to a week of oddball fix ups. Today we stopped at a few projects to get an eyeball on them. Tomorrow we get to replace some steps going from a vacation home up on a cliff down to the river. Going to be interesting with the height and length of the entire stairs.

JR is quite happy this week. He started helping the neighbor farmer doing chores in the hog barns. A little responsibility should help mature him. But, wow, the smell when he comes home. Been away from it for a long time, and gotta get used to it again. And his calves will probably move on in a week. But there is talk of getting some more for spring.

Picked up a good used washing machine last night. Went to install it this evening and what a mess. The fittings on the hoses going to the old washer are corroded and don't want to come off. The water valve on the wall sprung a leak when I turned it off. So much for something simple. A parts run should get it hooked up. I guess the valve would be about 25 years old now, it had a decent lifetime.

Finally put the snow plow on the Gravely. Of course it was snowing and the ground was covered before it was on. We had 3 small snowstorms so far that I didn't need to clear the drive. This looks like it will stay awhile. So once the freezing rain is finished, we need to plow. Most likely JR gets the seat and dad gets the shovel....

I got to watch JR do our drive and the neighbor do his.0118202041.jpg
My neighbor has a small JD with a cab and blower. And bright led lights. The blower did fairly good considering the sleet and ice we had.
