What are you currently working on??

Nothing on my own tractors, but I put tubes in the rear tires on my neighbors Troy-Built. He had me put Slime in them a few weeks ago, but it didn’t work.

I have posted before about my mom’s boss, who bought my grandfathers old Husqvarna a couple years ago. He can break anything, and probably should not even be allowed near anything with an engine. He traded the Husqvarna on a new Cub Cadet XT1 this year, and already bent the blades on that. I changed them yesterday, we’ll see how long until he hits something else.

They are really thin. That whole tractor feels like a toy compared to my old Cubs. We have a lot of rocks here, I have hit some pretty big ones with my tractors and only ever bent one blade.
Somebody on another forum was just talking about those blades Cub uses that has the 'S" shape on the blades. They were saying too how cheap and thin they were. He even wondered about changing spindles to allow other blades to be put on. To no avail that I'm aware of..
But still what the heck are these guys running over.
That deck certainly looks well used already considering the age.
But in the same breath a lot of people think of a mower as a tool. Nothing more nothing less. Just like a hammer you buy to pound with..

Way back when my son was young he walked the yard picking up rocks for me. I was still mowing with the old MTD LT in my avatar. Well he missed a pretty good size one. Not only did it break---not bent a blade, it stripped the splines on one side of the cross shaft on the timed deck.

In his defense though I had been working so many hours that the grass had gotten out of control and neither he or I saw it.

My point, good quality blade will break before it bends like that thing did!

I saw that too. I agree with you, blades don’t just bend if you aren’t hitting anything. He was mowing a trail in the woods and hit a rock. The edges on the blades were chipped up pretty bad, so that wasn’t the first thing he hit either. He said he learned his lesson and will use his weedwacker there from now on. We’ll see, I wouldn’t be surprised if I have to put blades on this again before the end of the season.
Shows how cheap and crappy stuff is nowadays compared to the old stuff
Exactly. I don’t think these will be around in 50 years, he will be lucky if it lasts 5.

Finished putting together, what little there was, a new Stihl 460V walk behind mower. Nice unit with variable speed power drive, one lever cutting height adjustment, included a bagger, charger, big battery for $644. Had them on sale plus the "kit" special. Will be Carolyn's trimming unit. Won't have to check the oil, fill with gas, pull the rope to start it even though it usually started on first pull. She could not pull the JD 62 6.5 hp fast enough to start it. Nice mower but just not working for us anymore.

I'll have to get to the point physically to where I can't pull a starter rope or the govt is gonna have to come with guns drawn to take my gas powered equipment away.
But "what am I working on" now?
Camping. Til Monday. Just got here a couple of hours ago. And may drop the camper off at KOA on the way home if they're not full up and drop the camper there, go to work next week from there since it looks like might finally be getting the driveway paved middle of next week and I need a place to stash the camper for them to be able to work in the spot I park it.

They were supposed to do it a while ago but had another job run over.
I had my other camper (we just got this one a couple of weeks ago) parked in the yard thinking THAT would be out of the way enough and it wasn't. A tree limb fell on it and did that one in. And they didn't get to my driveway when they said they would. So I sold that one for just above scrap price just to be rid of it and went and got this one

That is exactly why I bought this battery powered for Carolyn. As I said the JD she cannot pull fast enough. The high wheel rolls nice but the pushing and pulling gets to be a lot of work for her after a time. With the power drive, half of that push pull will be eliminated. Will give the JD to the son in law as they are push mowing their yard in town. The other one I may keep as a back up mower. Will see how things work out. As for getting rid of all my gas tools, I doubt it. At least not in this stage of the game.

That's why I put brand new ((even if 40 years old) engines that ive had collecting dust onto 2 of my 3 commercial bobcat push mower decks. I have enough right there to last my lifetime and then some... Besides absolutely being able to find nothing side discharge built within the last 15 years or so .. everything has to be a mulcher. And/or made of material thinner than toilet paper. Besides who makes /what is a "power more" engine? Are parts even available?
Add to that that these push easier than anything new, nothing "consumer grade" in a mower, has had greseable ball bearing wheels on them since I can remember, if they ever have... nope no electric mowers here.

You are soooo right.

When I found the Lawn Boy push mower put out to the curb for free, The engine was worn, yet I had a nice BS 6Hp on the side needing a deck. It was merely plug-n-play. That desk is awesome for thickness. It will out last my lifetime. Just wish the engines would. LOL
Before the engine swap.

It has these balloon wheels up front. These are totally awesome!
Makes it so easy to steer! Unlike other push mowers I had ever owned!
The self propelled has an adjustment in the back to set the walking speed too. Very clever.
My DD once set it to fast walking. Literally she was running around the yard like a jogger!

I have a 2 cycle lawnboy I purchased new in 1990. I think I changed the plug once. Other than that, no service except lube and blade sharpening. Still starts on the second pull every time.
Great mowers.

I said several time that I was not a battery powered small equipment guy. The reason I bought this Stihl is for the better half that does the trim mowing. Pushing any mower back and forth up a grade and back is hard work for anyone let alone a 81 yo woman. This on has full variable ground speed adjustment from 0.6 to a full run, slide adjustment on the run any time. Release the drive bar and you have a standard push mower operation. This is not a light duty mower a 59 lbs. w/o battery. The new batteries will fit in any Stihl battery operated equipment they ever made. Will let her be the judge on how it works out after we mow on Monday or Tuesday.
