2 free quads

It had the original, correct size, tires on it, but they are bald and don’t hold air, so I stole the fronts off my mom’s quad so I could use it until I get a new set of the correct size tires for this. I don’t remember the exact size of them but I think they are an inch or two taller.
Yea Chris has a very good point as far as running the correct tire sizes that they recommend. Not only bind things up but break things up..if running in 4wd that is.

Your probably ok using those tires in the snow but it would be a lot better for the drivetrain to get the correct size on there again. Odd sized tires tend to bind things up.
I like those old Polaris quads. They were good machines and there seems to still be quite a few of them around.

Thanks guys, I never thought about different size tires binding things up. I am planning on getting a new set of the correct size tires for it very soon. I wanted to use it a bit first and make sure I had all of the mechanical issues fixed before I spend the money on tires. I looked at the tires again and they are actually the same size as the originals, although I think they look taller. I know sometimes sizes can vary by manufacturer. I’ll be careful with it and avoid using the 4WD until I get the new tires just to be safe.

Does that 4-wheel drive lock the front drive in or is it an on-demand type setup. My 04 Ranger has the on-demand type system for the front wheel engagement. Rear differential can be locked manually with a lever on the dash but seldom use it.

I got an early Christmas present, my dad got me a set of tires. I have to paint the wheels before I put them on, I’ll probably work on that this week. I think these will be good in the snow.

We had some snow Saturday, so I tried plowing again. It ran great for about 15 minutes, then the carburetor started flooding again. I thought I had that fixed. I’m going to take it off and check the float again, but I’m probably going to end up getting a used oem carb to rebuild. I think this Amazon carb I put on it is just junk.

Lower the float so it will close the vale sooner. I have used several aftermarket carbs and 90% of them have the float set to high causing flooding or carb overflow.
I have had the carb off to adjust the float at least 5 times now. Right now I have it set to where Polaris recommends. I have tried it higher and lower too. The last time I put the float from the old carb in it thinking maybe the new one was bad. Each time I adjust it, it seems ok, then after a while starts flooding again.

Does it use a fuel pump of some kind ?

Does it use a fuel pump of some kind ?
Yes, it has a vacuum pump.
Those sunf tires are tough. And the price is fantastic. I’m running the same tread pattern on my minibike. The factory tires went bald in a summer. I’ve ridden it twice as much with 4 times as much HP now and the Sunf tires are barely showing wear.
I have heard good things about them. They will probably dry rot before I wear them out.
Sure sounds like junk is getting in the needle and seat.
I guess that’s possible, but the tank was flushed, and it has new fuel lines, a filter and pump, so it should be clean.
That was my thoughts to Chris. Or possibly excess pressure from the fuel pump? Not sure what it has for a fuel pump but I know I had a time getting that same issue solved in my 500 Ranger. His is probably a gravity feed system though with the tank up over the engine.
It is a vacuum fuel pump. And if I remember right, it was a Mikuni that I bought at a Polaris dealer. I thought about temporarily running a line directly from the tank to the carb and see if it still floods, to rule out the fuel pump.
Do you have a fuel filter in line?
Yes.

I ended up ordering a different carburetor. Another aftermarket one, but it had great reviews. It should be here today. I spent almost a whole day messing with this one and I still can’t get it to run right. I did some reading and the common conclusion seems to be that these Chinese carburetors are just junk, and they rarely ever run right with them.

I got my wheels painted too. Hopefully today or tomorrow I can get the new tires on, and get them back on the quad.
