4getgto's Auctions finds..

I'd say MTD, Bill. That weed or grass graphic is on MTD stuff too. Don't look like it was used!

Yea don't think it was used much either. This is the kind of stuff that grabs my attention and most others shy away from the "old" stuff. Other than cleaning it up a little don't think I did anything to it. Runs like a clock. With a little care these blowers will last a (almost) lifetime. Belts, friction wheel and a bearing or two and not much else to go bad.

Picked up this Craftsman belt sander today. 9" disc 6" wide sanding belt and 3/4 hp motor. With a bunch of extra sand paper with it. Looks like a pretty good one. I'm using a HF now and its a total piece of crap.

Yea I have the Harbor Freight on Market place now. Might have pay someone to take it..
If it is priced well below HF, it might sell, Bill! Think I paid around 40-50 bucks for mine a lot of years ago. No clue what they cost now.

I got 20 bucks for my old HF benchtop drill press, but it wasn't advertised. A guy came and bought my old air compressor and saw it. I darn near threw it in with the deal but he offered 20.

Bought this Craftsman snowblower yesterday at auction. Looks to be in like new condition. 5hp overhead valve motor which is at least newer to what I usually find. By model number its under 10 years old. Most are the older flat heads. Needs carburetor work but that's ok considering the shape its in. Inside the barrel looks new with nippers on the tires yet so has very little use but someone obviously left gas sit in it. Now we got to "Think Snow" so I can sell them off. Sold one already this fall so that's a good thing..

Most of the motors they put on those sanders are the standard 3450 rpm motors. Way too fast for a belt or disc sander. Needs to be 1725 rpm. HF uses whatever they can get a truck load of cheap for their stuff. I have been trying to find a 1725 rpm double shaft 1/4 hp motor for several years. Have an older Foley-Bellsaw 8" disc and 1" vertical belt sander setup. Disc mounts on one end of the motor shaft and the drive for the belt on the other. Came with a 3450 motor and man can you burn wood with that. Motor went on something else so now have a tool with no motor.

Something new I found at an estate auction this week. We were looking for something of another car and seen a 2007 fully loaded Mercury Montego with 62k miles. Advertised as being very good to excellent condition. Now you couldn’t look at the car in person ( though they had many photos) nor drive it. They wouldn’t even state where the actual address of the sale was . Auctioneer was on the up and up so no worries there. They do that so they don’t get robbed. Anyway ended up winning the bid at $3750. If you ever heard of a car that was only driven on Sunday by an old lady this is probably one of those cars. 92 year old lady in fact. The son used the car the last two years and put 15k miles on .And garage kept up to that time. The car is in excellent condition , drives perfectly and needs nothing. Even still inspected. Hopefully it runs for a while.

That’s a good buy! I need to start watching the auctions and find my daughter a car. I was going to give her my Jeep. But it’s switched to buying my wife a new van and I don’t want to have 2 car payments again. My Jeep will be paid off in July about the time we will start looking for her. So that will start another 36 month loan.

So oldest will get a 5-10 year old car that she can use.

That is the best thing that could have happened to that car. I wouldn't have touched it if it had been setting the whole time. Cars need exercise just like people.
Congratulations for finding this car and winning the bid.

That is the truth! Worn out junk still costs 5-10 grand any more. You got a smokin' deal on that Bill! Nice score!

I seen where this car has a retail value of about 5-7 thousand. So in that sense its a good buy.
Buying at auction sight unseen can be risky. Definitely a gamble ( gambler I ain't) . Just got to use your best judgement.
Again the auctioneer made some bold distributions on the car and just gotta hope you can trust his word he's a honest one.

Auctioneers work to get the highest $$ for the item, and not for the buyer.
Sometimes, other times they try to find ANYONE to take it and it goes sooooo cheap. They don't want to be stuck paying the price to haul it to the dump.

Get to know 'Bontia Joe' on the other forums. He's like a master of finding stuff for a mere few dollars and loads the entire back end of his truck bed. It's simply amazing what he gets within a 150 mile radius from his place at auctions.

I don't drive Fords at all. Literally been twice Found On Road Dead, and both times the vehicles hauled away.

I do not at all like the bubble mobile looks of the Taurus.

Now with all that ASIDE, the styling of the Mercury Montego has that Buick look. A clean elegant rich look.
The V6 is 203Hp, a tad shy of the Chrysler minivan (258Hp) of the same era.
Good MPG though!

3.0-liter V6
203 horsepower @ 5750 rpm
207 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4500 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 21/29 (FWD)

The front-wheel-drive Montego employs a conventional six-speed automatic. :)

The AWD has the hated CVT. :(

It comes with the early Ford CVT transmission. I hope you know how to take care of it should it be AWD. Do not do hard shifting nor hard gas pedal driving, else it will snap. To fix it, you would need to drop a replacement in. (not fun by any means).

I know of Joe. Actually only around 10-15 miles from me.

Only fords I will own are Rangers and only with certain engines/transmission. I’ve never had good luck with fords.

My dad drives a newer ford Taurus. 2017 or 18. It seems like a solid car. They don’t drive much so it has like 18,000 miles on it.

My next will be a new Tacoma, Frontier or I’ll go full crazy and buy a new BMW m340i x drive. All will run me 50-60k.
