And more junk.

Our daughter went back home this morning so we ran a few errands in town after she left. Getting new tires on her Equinox Saturday, got the ones she wants picked out. That car drove so badly the other day when we went to Hot Spring in the almost blizzard that the old ones have to go.

Got home and scraped ice off the sidewalk and patio where I spread some ice melt. Just about out of that stuff so will have to get a bucket next time we go to Sam's Club. Then I messed with the Christmas gift Loree gave me. It's a metal detector. Over 50 years ago mom had bought a "White's" detector and we had some pretty good luck with it. Lost that in the flood of 1972, and I never got to mess with one ever since.

This new one is a "Mine Lab Go-Find 66". I powered it up and was finding the rebar in my shop floor with it---LOL! One of the first jobs I have in mind is to try to find the Property corner markers on our acre. I'm thinking the ones along the road frontage are gone though, probably dug up and not replaced when the water main got dug in many years ago.

Mine Lab makes some good stuff. I bought a Garret AT Pro some years ago and really enjoyed using it until my back started going downhill. I liked using in the water at wading depths. It's easier in the water as I didn't have to dig. Found some interesting stuff. I should take one of the grandsons and split the take with him. I'd do the finding and they can dig them. Actually I'd probably end up giving them everything.
My first finder was a Whites also. Gave that to a Son in-law.
I hope you get a lot of use out of yours. It can be a lot of fun.

I bought a White at an auction several years ago. Need to get it out and use it. All the state, county and City owned lakes one needs a permit to use them on beaches. Don't cost anything for the permit but they know who is there and if they are filling their holes back in.

I had a White and enjoyed it for awhile. I gave it to my BIL then later on he bought a Garret. I think I liked the Garret better or maybe it was just a better model. He could tune out junk like pull tabs but the white never had that feature. Thanks guys now I’m getting interested again.

We use to hunt a lot on the East side of Cincinnati before they done some flooding to build the East Fork lake. We would root around old foundations and barns and it was a lot of fun.

You're welcome, Jim---LOL! One time around 1970 we were bottle digging not long after mom bought the White. She was digging and found the frame of a small revolver. Her brother in law was using the metal detector and found the cylinder probably 20 feet from the gun! I was so impressed with finding both of those pieces that when we knew a flood was about to hit in 1972, I took the gun with me.

Wish I did have someone to do the digging for me though, as my back is bad too. I think metal detecting is a younger man's activity but will give it a go sometime anyway!

I had a doc appt this morning and Loree is still off work so we did some more running around, then got home around noon. Started putting away a few of the Christmas things but didn't get real serious about it yet. Loree wanted to watch some movie that I had no interest in so shop time!

Checked out the MF8E after plowing s-word on Wednesday and didn't find any parts falling off or problems that needed addressed. Decided to make a better blade support for it since the hydraulics bleed off and the blade will drop to the floor after a few days. I have been using a chain to hold it up for decades but always thought that it needed something that stays on the tractor.

The old chain setup is visible in this pic.

Found a 5/16" eyebolt to use. It was a lag but I cut that off and ran a 5/16-18 die down it a couple inches.

I don't know what the heck is going on but the site only let me load 7 pics instead of the usual 10 so I will try another post.

EDIT! I don't know what the heck happened last night, 12-29-23, but I got booted off the site right in the middle of making this post and could not get back on. I look at this site on my phone but won't post anything with it as it's too much hassle for a fat fingered old man. Anyway, when trying to look with the phone it was like this site didn't exist!

Will finish what I started now hopefully!

This is the finished hook for the blade on the MF8E. Looks like it will hold the blade up just fine and it is always attached to the tractor.

We got the new tires on the Equinox today and went to Sam's club after that. They were out of Ice melt. Loree came down with a cold so she went to sleep on the couch and now I'm out in the shop! Not getting anything productive done though. I shred documents at the end of each year so did that. Brought her car in the shop to warm up overnight. I bought her door edge guards, rain deflectors and a paint-chip touch up kit for Christmas and the rest of the present is I have to do the work too. That will be the new Years Eve project!

Our son Chris gave me a nice rechargeable HF work light that is super bright. It has 3 intensity settings and the medium and high leaves spots in your eyes like a weld flash. Has a real strong magnet and it can swivel in the base. Seeing is the biggest problem I have working on stuff. It will be real handy.

I couldn’t get logged in around that same time on 12/29 Doug. Got right on the next morning. Nice looking light, the Braun and Doyle brands at HF seem to have quality to them.

Sounds like a few of us had issues, John, but not everyone. Must have been a matter of timing.

Those HF brands do seem to have pretty good quality. It showed me another feature today. After about 2 hours of being on steady, it flashed a few times and about 5 minutes later it shut off. Didn't seem to "dim out" at all. Bright right to the end! Got it charging now. I had not charged it since it was gifted. Who knows how many times someone played with the switch while hanging on a hook in the store?

Finally got some time to work on some of my junk for a couple hours this evening---LOL!

Some of you might remember the yard windmill that has been getting fixed up little by little. I wanted to put "Massey -Ferguson on the tail using the font from the MF12G since it is the oldest red one I have. Loaded them into my vinyl cutting program and converted and cleaned them up to something useable. Drew a basic shape of the tail and 1" letters was the biggest I could do without it looking overcrowded.

Hopefully I will be able to cut and stick them on tomorrow! Maybe will get some work done on the tower this week too. May not be able to afford heating the shop later this week with below zero temps coming.

God job Doug nice idea with the MF design. My shop clock went bad awhile back and I’ve been wanting to make a clock using a B&S engine shroud with the clock face in the stator hole. I like the ideas of using the tractor colors and decals on unusual items.
