Dug these two snowthrowers out

We had enough snow at work yesterday to get the Craftsman out for the first time this year. It ran good for a while until the drive chain broke and got wrapped up in the auger. I don’t think it hurt anything else, so I just have to get a chain, and it should be good to go again. At least it waited until I was almost done.

Sorry to hear about your chain trouble Nick, but at least its a cheap and hopefully easy fix. Sounds like it did a good job blowing though. Did I miss it, or did you get the chain guard made and put on yet? Looking forward to hearing more on it soon.

No, I did not get a chain guard made yet, I actually kind of forgot about it. I should start working on that.

Oh yeah, it’s loud.

I’ve never heard that, why not?
Lithium and water make a HUGE explosion. They never will mix.

Take an old and dead cell phone with a lithium battery, toss it into your swimming pool and run like mad far away. It will go into MELT DOWN MODE then E X P L O D E.

Lithium-ion batteries can explode or catch fire due to a phenomenon called thermal runaway.

Well Nick I'm about 100 miles from you so if I hear a big bang I'll know you didn't take Bretts advice.. ;) Actually a motorcycle chain lube would probably be your best bet.
All kidding aside White lithium grease is pretty much in any hardware store in the US sells it as far as I know. Can usually be found cheap tubes for grease guns.. I'm guessing if it were that bad it wouldn't be sold. And the article above I believe is more focused on the aerosol cans of grease.

That is a huge block of misinformation right there. Aside from the cell phone battery part. They can and will burn in a spectacular fashion.

Every article you linked was spraying lithium grease. Aerosol lithium grease would explode or be flammable due to the propellant just like WD 40.

While both lithium grease and lithium batteries contain lithium, the form of lithium used is different; in grease, lithium is typically found as a lithium soap (like lithium stearate) which acts as a thickener for the lubricating oil, while in batteries, lithium is used as a reactive metal within the battery chemistry to store and release electrical charge; essentially, the lithium in grease is not designed to conduct electricity like the lithium in a battery.

The lithium in grease is not going to explode if it comes in contact with water. I really doubt you'd be able to walk into walmart and buy a big ole tub of lithium grease if it was going to act like Gizmo when it comes in contact with water.

Lithium grease is known for its ability to be water resistant and can handle wet applications. Some of our customers request lithium grease in their bearings and such used underground. Wet and dirty applications. I haven’t heard of one catching fire and exploding yet.
