Just had to do it.

Since GB got a "new to him" Kubota tractor, I found I was a little jealous so I had to buy a "new to me" tractor. Dad bought one also. These were at our local auction and after several other tractors sold for more than I could afford I settled for this non-operable Farmall 230 and Dad went for a non-operable John Deere BO. The plan is to pick them up on Monday.

Farmall C, then super C, then 200, then 230, and in 58 tractor style changed and then it was a 240. I think that’s how it goes Bill. Buddy of mine has a Farmall 240. It’s nice.
This one not his. But his is identical.

I think you got the better deal but then I am IH red a lot more the JD green. Did your Dad get the motor with it or just the rolling frame?
The cylinder head was pulled off but comes with it along with the hood. A few parts are missing that we may already have or are easy to get.

The head is on the pallet along with an extra set of front wheels.

That 230 is I assume a newer version of a Farmall C ?.
And never heard of a JD BO. Actually never heard of a 230 either.
Look like decent tractors..
Like the others have already said the Farmall 230 is the last of this style that started as the C/superC. The BO is the orchard model. They also made a BR that had the exhaust and air intake stacks the stuck up through the hood.

The BO engine is stuck from rust but may clean up without having to bore it. It has brand new 12.4 - 24 rear tires and one new front tire which are worth what we had to pay for the tractor. The Farmall 230 was a gamble on my part. The engine does turn over and all levers seem to move but won't know exactly what I got until I get it home and open things up. I got it cheap enough that I could put an engine kit in it and we already have a set of used rear tires to go on it. Hopefully I don't find anything catastrophic but time will tell.

As I remember it the flywheel just came loose. Ended up in the furrow rolling towards Mom and I. We were bringing Dad coffee used a quart jar wrapped in burlap and soaked in hot water. Poor man thermos I guess.
I remember Mom and a few of us kids bring Dad lunch in the field and yes poor mans thermos is right or the jar packed with ice cubes if it was a cold drink generally koolaid back then

Hauled the tractors today. They used a big forklift with some blocking and just picked both tractors up and set them on the flatbed trailer. Made the job a lot easier. Took a spare wheel from our other John Deere BO and bolted it on so we could roll the tractor around. After looking it over I think we can put it back together without too much trouble or expense. Pulled the loader off of the Farmall 230. It was bent back so far that the bucket would rub on the front tires. It will never go back on. Checked a few things out on it and so far, so good. I plan on using my inspection camera to take a look in the cylinders and transmission and will be pulling the rocker cover to look for stuck valves. The pan will need to be dropped to inspect for possible oil pump damage since it dented in pretty bad.
