My Free Stihl Weed Whacker

Update:

Well, I bought a new bulb off ebay today. It’s the one I originally posted about in post #64, this one here…. NEW WALBRO PRIMER BULB FITS STIHL FS36/FS40/FS44 TRIMMERS | eBay. We tried fixing the old one, but the black parts won’t snap back into place because of the lip. Anyways, I will let everyone know when the new bulb arrives at my house and when I put it in….

Hi Everybody,

Guess what got put in today! Hopefully this should do the trick, otherwise I don’t know what else to do. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I still have to put the cover back on yet and put more gas/oil in it. The plan is to try and start it either tomorrow or in the next couple of days. I will keep you all updated.

I pitched my Stihl weedwacker some years ago..first it was fuel lines collapsed.. then carb issues…bought a 40V battery operated B&D weedwacker…im happy with it…if the battery runs out before im done there’s always tomorrow as the charge time is about 4 hours..

I have 2 of the Stihl line trimmer as well as 2 of their chain saws. Have not had nay issues with any of them The oldest line trimmer was bought when we bought this place 24 years ago. Got it going the other day and started and ran on 4or 5 pulls. Won't have anything else but a Stihl any more. Carolyn loves her Ryobi battery line trimmer. 2 - 2.5 ah and one 1.5 ah battery with the big charger and keep her going as long as she wants and not worry of running out of battery power.

Hi Everyone,

I finally got an update on the whacker. I finished putting it back together last week, but have not filled it up with the gas and oil mixture or even tried starting it since I put the new bulb in. Well, today was that day…. and I failed. My stepdad tried pulling and starting it for me since he has more pulling strength than I do and when he pulled it, it started leaking out of the bottom. It leaked one big blob then dripped once more after, so that said I pulled it back apart… again. The bulb works like it should with pumping fuel to the carburetor, but apparently it leaks from where I am pointing in my pictures out of the tank through the gas line because there is no fuel gromment and gets the tank wet. I guess I should of expected that though, urgh. The next things I plan to do are try starting it again since I don’t think enough fuel got to the carburetor, look into some gromments, and reevaluate my plan whether to continue the project or not. Right now I see that the asking prices of these are $30 to $100, so I have to calculate my expenses then decide to keep going or not. More to come soon….
