What did you do with your tractor today?

Put 4 new tires on the EK7. Got a rain shower before I got the last two put on the machine but got them on. The EK is in the shop and the dry now. I don't like my equipment to sit outside once I get them home.

I almost got my SS12 into the garage to start working on it,,,,almost. Then reminded I have to change out a sending unit on my pickup before the snow flies. For your viewing pleasure that is $6 per gallon gasoline, premium is about $7. I am looking forward to getting the SS12 inside and rebuild starter and possibly mount the mower deck and keep it for just mowing while my MIGHTY SS16 can do the snowblower work. fullsizeoutput_a34.jpeg

After getting the Bolens QT up and running, hooked on to the yard cart and headed to the garden. Rolled on pumpkin into the dumped cart, then had to lift it up so the latch would catch. Darn that thing is heavy or I am getting awful week. Got it in place and went after the other one. this one has to go from the cart to the back of may pickup, then 30 miles to the granddaughter and unload in front of her house. Getting in on, not so bad. Getting it off in one piece is a whole other story.
This is the one that will stay here. Here.JPG

This one will go to her place. There.JPG

today? all I did to any of my machines, was to replace the points in the GT19 that decided to eat themselves, yesterday I finally put the tiller on (that I bought this, my 4th Ariens, specifically to get) and tilled some dead/ bare spots in the lawn with so I could reseed (lack of rain has our soil like concrete, seed laying on top of concrete wont do much but wash away in the next rain) Ran great, shut of and restarted a few times throughout yesterday/ no problem.... moved it up 20' from the last spot so I could rake it out then went to start it to move it from the front yard to the back a couple of hours later and it wouldn't fire. tried again this morning again no fire. when I discovered the point gap had mysteriously closed itself up, and the stationary point had eaten itself (burnt) and wouldn't respond to an emery cloth treatment I put in a new set, then it fired right up like it had been up til that time, and moved it to the back yard. pretty boring day for the tractors... could have swore I replaced the points and condenser, when I got this tractor and I also put on a new coil too. (I know I replaced the coil then, about 3 months ago)

I had a "thought" for my tractor today. Found this shield that had fallen off a truck. I decided that it would make a very nice side cover for my SS12. I had seen numerous covers for sale but too rich for my blood. I'll do both side covers.

That should work good.

Got the Cub diesel out and ready for mowing. Put on a new set of high lift blades and mowed for about 2 hours. Mrs. run her 1018 around the tighter areas. Done for another week.

Front half of the EK went to the welding shop first thing yesterday morning.

Drove 3 hours to Indiana Saturday for a plow day, met up with Eric ( dropped82) and his son. This was the first plow day these guys put on. 96 acres or so, there were GT's and big tractors, I guess we plowed maybe 70-75 acres. For the GT's it was mostly IH x82 and JD 420/430's with a few Cubs, couple AC, Eric's MF's and I was the lone Sears.
I can say that Indiana clay was not fun to plow in, even after some rain, it was pretty hard in spots.

Mounted the chains and removed and serviced mower deck

The chains are for a auto, got them for $10 at a flea market but they really should have twice as many cross chains

I cruse Salvation Army, Saint Vincent, Good Will. And other thrift stores for chains. Steal the cross bars from one set for the other. Usually only pay a couple of bucks for a set of chains. The chains we use are not recommended for radial tires and I don't know of any modern car running bias tires so few people can even use them. Don

I used a similar cover that was a roadside find. It made a decent grill for my "Rat" tractor. Rick

My SS12 was missing the piece of grill on right side so I made one out of tin. My SS16 is also missing the piece of grill that has to be removed when attachments are on, must be a pile of those grill pieces somewhere along with socks, lighters and 1/2" wrenches

That will work.

Did you ever get your ignition fixed on the Blue SS12?

Took the EK 7 out for it's first good test run this afternoon. Done a good job but sure is different going from a hydro to a 3 speed and can't see the shifter. Has a bad wore out ball joint on the steering arm on the front so steering it is a challenge too. Got the Sta-Bil in the gas and run through the carb good along with MMO so it should be ready for winter. Mowed with the CC 1512 for about an hour. Got a low front tire so was cutting low on that side so I quit.
