What are you currently working on??

Just like everything else oil refinements has come a long way since the OE manuals and tractor were made. I am down to two cubs with hydro's now, but had around 15 at one time several years ago. Every one of them, as soon as I could do it the hydro and filter was drained, new filter and Northland Hytran was put in. Northland makes this oil for several tractor companies with their own brand on the container. It is good enough oil for half million $$ tractors and combines so it will work in our little hydro with no problems. Case IH, John Deere, Ford, etc. Same oil with different colorings in some. This information came from a Northland rep when he was at an independent repair shop I used. You do what you want but can't go wrong with Northland Hytran. Every manufacturer is going to tell you to use ONLY their oil for a reason, $$ in their pockets.

I used to have a Sears/roper hydro tractor. My son also had one.
One of them came to us with its original manual.
I remember it saying to use "type F and NOTHING ELSE". exactly like that ....

We use type F at work in all our units we build, it has the highest friction modifiers than the other standard tranny fluids. Can be hard to find these days as vary few companies make it anymore.

House up the road had a tree (silver maple i think) that needed cut down, was going to stop and offer for the wood. Well it went down in a storm a few months back, but house looked empty. Happen to see owner, seems they are getting a divorce and selling house, told him I would cut it up for the wood. My son but most of it up a couple weeks ago, we went today and loaded up a load and cut the rest.

These are partial load and the tree.

Full load, have probably another full load. May have to take splitter up to be able to move alot of the rest. I'm beat this evening.

I dug my 149 restoration project out of the corner and plan to start working on it again. It has been a shelf for the past 5 years. Hopefully I can actually finish it this time. I bought this tractor and started restoring it in December 2017. I think the last time I worked on it was in 2019 or 2020. It’s been way too long. First thing, I need to get it running again. It’s probably going to need the carburetor cleaned and a new battery. I had this motor rebuilt, and it still needs to be broken in. I only had it running once for a few minutes. It needs to be cleaned up too. Even though it was inside and covered, it’s still dusty and covered with spiderwebs. All of the yellow parts are done, I have a few white parts that still need to be painted, and I think I’m going to redo the hood and dash. If I actually work on it, it shouldn’t take too long to get it done. I will start a new thread for it soon, I have a lot of pictures from when I was working on it, and some before pictures.

Your tractor looks exactly like mine with all that stuff on it Nick, I too got too much stuff. Miller Lite is great beer too by the way, its my favorite. I am looking forward to seeing your posts with progress on it! If I may ask, what did you use on the tins?

I admire you guys that do the down to the last nut restore project. I don't have the patients for that. I stop with a refurbish and put them to work, except the last one. An IH built 782 Cub Cadet. Rebuilt the engine to +30, painted a lot of parts, some new footwear and run it about an hour. Sat all last year covered in the machine shed but hope to break it in good this spring. Has a good deck under it but did a cover up on the seat.

Everything was painted with Nason Ful-Cryl.

It is a lot of work, but I like it. I don’t paint my working tractors. Most of them are still original paint with scratches and dents, which I like. Plus if they get or dirty or scratched, it’s not the end of the world. When this tractor is done, I may cut grass with it a few times a year, or take it for a ride around the yard on nice days, and that’s about all. Maybe take it to some shows. Most of the time it will sit in the garage covered up.

Don't look like you have a whole lot to do Nick. Looking pretty nice..
Are those front tires (size) and wheels factory to the tractor ?
Almost looks like there should be wider ones on it ?

Thanks. These are the wheels and tires that were on it when I got it, but they are not correct. This size was an option on the lower horsepower tractors in this series, but as far as I know, all 149’s came from the factory with wider ones front and back. I have another set of the correct size wheels and tires, front and back, that will be going on it. I just put these ones back on for now so I could roll it around.

Someone recently got a 1970 Model 1253 Bolens Tractor with a 10 hp Tecumseh engine Model HH100. It is like the 1966-ish Craftsman machine you are hunting for! The same engine at least and some of the same style ques.

Jeep Liberty broke down again, barely made it home not sure how the belt stayed on after the tensioner pulley locked up and melted away.
I was going to steal the one off the other Jeep that blew the head gasket, but it's shot too.

Sometimes if you wait long enough problems fix themselves. About 2 months ago I got an air bag system warning. Tried to catch the mechanic to get it in the shop. Never caught him, and just punched the top button on the dash control for the DIS and it would go away. Couple weeks ago the warning never came on and hasn't come on since. Will still have him clear the codes and then see if it will throw that code again.

I took a page out of your book @TAHOE and redid my car headlights today after I got home from dialysis since it was another 55 degree day. I like you started out at 220 grit then went to 320, then 600 then 1500 then 2000 then used some compound then some polish. They are definitely better than they were….
