1986 JD 316 Repower

Well, I'm back to square one! No fire again today(even wired direct to the battery)! Think I'm fighting multiple issues!

Update! I think I finally found the no-start issue. Seems the ignition module is faltering. I checked it a while back per the service manual and all was good. Checked again today and it's NO-GO! The manual says to connect a volt meter (red) to the NEG side of the coil and and the other lead to ground. Turn the key on and you should have battery voltage. Turn the engine over and the volts should drop to around 1 volt and come back up. Mine stays at 1 volt (or less) no matter what. I got hold of Boomer and have a new module coming. This means pulling the engine to get the flywheel off. Hope this cures this issue!

Bummer having to pull the engine, but if it gets it fixed finally, definitely worth it!
I have tried most every way to get this to start. Today, when I had a jumper from the battery to the coil (bypassing the JD ignition circuit). it would try to fire when I unhooked the wire. That got me to check the module again and saw it was dead.Think that is what was happening before when I thought it was the switch.

The engine is out and got the flywheel off, waiting for the module to arrive! Have a few things to do to the tractor while waiting. The brake linkage needs lubed badly, pedal doesn't want to return by itself. Also want to look at the hyd. valve. I have the 140 3-spool that may find a home in there!

I lubed all rotating points I can find, still not returning all the way. Looked inth the hydraulic valve and there isn't enough space for the 3-spool. Had to put new valve stems in the rear tires, they were seeping air out. Greased the front end and the driveshaft u-joints. Still thinking about painting it Yeller! Think it would look cool! And to top the off, I'd use IH yeller (Cub Cadet paint).

The module is at the post office. I'll have it this morning. Once I test it for fire, I can put the engine back together and install it.

I'm sure Alice wasn't worried but she might still get a little jealous!
She would have made short work out of that! But I need to get some hours on this thing and get the rings to seat. My biggest issue is I am used to the foot pedal hydro on Alice. Need three hands to run this thing! Think it would plow good though once I get some weight on the rear tires. The extra 80 lbs. on the front did not effect the steering at all!

I have another seat to put on, just have to make a mount so I can tilt it up to keep the rain off.

After the STRONG North winds a while back, many leaves had found a new home about the place. Today I raked up and hauled 5 loads to the burn pile with the 316 and Kensico trailer. This was the smallest as I was wore out!
