Tractor comes home for a refresh.

Doug, I looked at a new can of zesty orange, armor coat paint. It mentions that it has mineral sprits in it. My old cans don’t say that. And when I shook the can, It seemed like it would be thin enough to spray right out of the can. No mention of thinning or if sprayable. I did by a spray can of chev engine orange and sprayed a little bit of stuff. Very nice colour. But the zesty orange is very close. I’d need a lot of spray cans to do the tractor. Seem to depend on where you look on the tractor for original colour as to what the chev and zesty orange match. Last picture is chev on bottom, zesty on top, original to right. Then the third picture is of original paint on front end. Very close to the chev.

I’m sure I’m driving you all crazy, when you read this foolishness.

Bit more done. Took the hi/low shifter handle off. Painted all parts related to it. Clear coated the brake decal. Still undecided on paint. The Chevy orange spray can paint, lifted or I call wrinkled a little of the old paint on handle. Did I put to much on or what happened ? Not so bad on that little part, but if I paint the fenders and other bigger stuff and it wrinkles the old paint, that will be a bad Jumpins. !!!

That looks like some loose flaky original paint, but it is so hard to tell from pictures, Noel. If the new paint can flow under spots of the old paint, that can cause a lift or a peel around the edges where there's bare steel to original paint.

I wonder if the tractor's original paint could have been lacquer? Enamel color doesn't like to stick to lacquer color unless it's roughed up or scotch brighted well.

Sure wish I could be more help rather than confusion.

A little bit more done. Brush underneath and spray can on front end and sides. Some underneath. Zesty orange.

Hopefully the front wheels go back on tomorrow and the rear wheels come off for painting. And paint inside of fenders and parts of sides and underneath that I didn’t get today.

Noel

Some more done today. One coat of white on one side of the rear wheels. Some sanding done. Painted under one fender and the lug nuts painted.

Looks great Noel! Nothing wrong with brush painting! Looks like scrapes from chains inside the fender. I have to reverse the wheels on the MF12G if chains are needed or the fenders would get the crap beat out of them.

Ya , so I going with the zesty orange colour. And I use the brush on the fender with the zesty orange, then used the spray can zesty orange over that. That helps to cover the rusty spots and even the look of the paint. Seems to be working. Could have primed it , but for me it’s another step that could cause trouble. I’ll just put the extra coats of zesty orange to do the covering. Beginning to see how the tractor is going to look. It’s gunna turn out nice, I think. Gunna be a show tractor now. No more work, no more snow removal, no more going into the woods, etc, etc. Hehe, ya right. No shows, events or parades to take it to either.

Something I do a lot Noel, when I don’t need a mirror finish I like a bucket or three point hitch attachment etc. is to use those smooth sponge rollers from the dollar store. They work really well if the metal is warm and the paint is warm it actually lays down pretty nice. Not as good for getting into smaller corners and stuff but I find it lays down a nice job as well. And goes on quicker and thicker.
