Tractor comes home for a refresh.

I like the primer/paint together in the spray can. Have had good luck with that. Painted all the sheet metal off the IH782 with bright red primer/paint combo. The about 3 or 4 coats of clear over the top.

Both rear wheels painted. Just used a brush. Looks good. Two coats, both sides. Have to let it dry and harden for quite awhile before I try and wrestle the 75 lb weights on each wheel. She’s coming along.

Hehe, rear wheels are gunna turn out better than the front ones I did months ago, by priming and painting with a air spray gun. !!!

Wheels look great, Noel! This additive in oil base enamels makes a big difference brushing or rolling paint. Gives a sprayed look with a thicker coat. It was my go to additive when I was painting lots of signs and lettering vehicles. Slows the drying just a bit but not near as much as linseed oil. When I rebuilt the dash and gauges in the '55 GMC the only color that was sprayed was the satin black and that was Krylon spray bombs. I wouldn't know if Penetrol can be bought in Canada though.

You have mentioned that product before in another post Doug. But not sure what that post was about.
Noel.
I'm not sure either, Noel, but I rub it on faded and oxidized paint and it will help that a lot too. There again it dries a lot faster than linseed oil which also can be used for that. I wipe the '55 with it once a year or so. It could use it again right now!

Well here I am in the garage on Sunday July 4th sanding away on the Case 446.

With a fire on in the wood stove for some heat. July 4th.

Yep. Damp and cool in garage Gary. 60 F in here today and with the dampness I don’t like it. So on went the heat.

Lots of rain today and not over till around noon tomorrow. Chris will be mad at me for getting all the rain, hehe. I would say heat will be on again tomorrow in garage. 66F for a high tomorrow. Sun in afternoon. So only need a bit of heat in morning, maybe not all day.

All my tractors are pets Gary. Can’t sell them, hehe. But really, no not for sale. I’ve always wanted one of these garden tractors because of the ground clearance and big rear wheels and tires. It will look as close to a small farm tractor as you can get. And for the amount of money put into it, tires alone were $400.00, I would never get my money back out of it. It would have to be a collector of Case tractors that would want it. And there’s nothing special factory wise that makes it real collectable or be able to get big money for it.

I doubt that there are to many of these on PEI thou.

Noel

I don't blame you for burning next winters wood right now, Noel! Humid 60F is cold! I know that if I was to sell a tractor, I could never replace it for the job they are for around here. They have a job to do and will have to always earn their keep! They are fun to use doing those jobs though!

The only case I've ever had was beer---LOL!

Underneath all painted and rest of tractor sanded. But not engine bonnet. I’ll have questions about that.

Well some of the refresh is done. Got paint on tractor today. Bonnet is the last thing to do. But it and the muffler need rearranging. I’ll start asking questions soon on that.

Any way paint is on. A few runs of course. But I knew it was not going to be show quality. But runs are annoying. And it’s me own fault. Once paint is hard, which will be a while, I may try to wet sand them out some.
Stand back 10 feet and it’ll be ok. Once I get some of the stuff back on and decals and lots of dirt, nobody wil know. Hehe.

So brushed a coat on, to thick which cause the runs, waited a few minutes, then coat of spray can spray, waited 20 minutes, then another spray can spray. Done.

It's gonna look great Noel! That paint will probably continue to "flow out" so the runs may bot be so obvious to you once cured. I'd cut you some stickers if it wasn't a few thousand miles---LOL!

Some before and after pictures of left rear fender. It was dented up some. I just used two hammers and pounded it out. Then used a little spot putty on it. Came out pretty good I think.

Ok, so here’s my next problem. The tractor has been cobbled up quite a bit on the front end. Shrouds missing, electric pto instead of manual, wrong muffler. And as you can see, they cut the bonnet to make it fit around the muffler. Can’t put my nice new decal kit on the muffler. Right. So I need to do something with the muffler. And then try to fix the bonnet. My idea is to cut out what I need out of the muffler to make it short enough to make the bonnet fit. The other trouble is the muffler in very close to the bonnet. I thinking the heat will ruin the paint over time. So was thinking a bout some sort of exhaust wrap to protect the paint.

What are your thoughts members. Thanks for any ideas.

Noel
