Tractor comes home for a refresh.

So, I need somebody to weld this in. Got one piece made.

If you can weld a muffler together, that shouldn't be a problem, Noel! Take your time and spot back and forth across the piece to help prevent warping. I would think it could be brazed in if that works better for you.

Ya I’ve been thinking about brazing that Doug. Or steel rod welding. Brazing and steel rod welding, with torches, is no problem with me. But, the warping is the trouble. Mig welding is trouble some for me. Well, will see what happens I guess. Son says he can mig weld it. And has a much better welder than I.

Sounds like you found a welder, Noel! It will work great!

I did the cab corner on my ranger. I worked from one side to the other with small welds. Then ground it down. Went back and hit any spots I missed. Then a small amount of filler. It turned out good. I'm no body guy but from eye level you can't tell it was replaced. Bend down and stare at it and you can notice something went on...

I heard that guy who invented the welder also invented the grinder shorty thereafter..

Smart man he was..!

So I had a little time today. Second piece made. So It fits like the original. The top piece fits over the lower piece. Lower piece has that small bend in it for the top piece to fit on to. It will be tack welded on the back side.
Now if I or my son can weld it all together. That’s the question.

Well I cheated a bit Doug. The piece I used already had a bend in it, let’s say to the left, I have a very very small brake, I think that’s what they are called, and I used it to bend the part a bit more, then figured out how to bend it back to the right, to make the top part fit. My cousin, from Ottawa, who’s been dead for many years, gave it to me. Never used it much. More of a sentimental thing, but comes in handy once every 5 years. Hehe. Any way, it’s him and I, when ever I use it.

Great story, Noel! Tools, vehicles and just about everything else are better to use when there is sentimental attachment! I've got a 2' brake but it doesn't get used a lot either. Gave to me by the guy I raced with for 17 years. I do have a Harbor Freight flange tool also. It's a pretty handy item.

So more done today. In to the sand blaster soon, son and I finished fitting pieces in. He did the welding. But I think I could have done it. He has a much better welded than I. Any way he did a great job.
