What are you currently working on??

I pulled all the corn up yesterday since the ground was soft from some rain we had. I pull them up every year, pile them up then take a machete and cut the root balls off. My wife and girls use them for Fall decorations. The root balls go in the compost bins. I’m tiredo_O

I like a horizontal band saw but like some have mentioned they take up a lot of room. I’ve looked at a few but never pulled the trigger on one. So far I can get by with the chop saw and right angle grinder. Congrats Kenny!
I refuse to use a chop saw to cut metal anymore. Way too far out of tolerance cuts!

Still on call at work but the phone has been pretty quiet for a couple of days at least. Got a couple things done in the shop. Had to order some sign sandblast mask. When I tried to buy some locally, the song and dance I got was "There's an extreme shortage and i don't think we can spare any." Finally decided to check the net and it sure seems pretty common on just about every online store like amazon and ebay along with others. 3M brand so it is good quality. That was another story they said. "The good quality stuff is impossible to find!"

The new heel jaw came in for that scrapped pipe wrench so I got that installed. Had to run a 3/16" drill through the holes to line things up but the jaw is tight and the roll pin went in tight.

Then I loaded the '72 with old tires. The dump is taking tires free for a couple days so I figured I better get some out of here while they aren't robbing people for disposing them. I've got more, but I want the wheels they are on. Air compressor at work is still broke down and I'm not going to do it the old fashioned way so they will have to wait.

Also cut some stickers for a friend. He says he has a couple of small engines he will give me. He said one is a Briggs that is nearly brand new and the other is a Honda with a gear reduction. Both horizontal shaft. Don't need any more engines, but what the heck!

Had a friend tell me about his neighbors rusty old plow. Wanted to know if I was interested in it before he put it in a garage sale. I shot him a low price sight unseen. He took it. turns out to be a well used/abused 12" with a depth gauge wheel. It is in sad shape but I can salvage the wheel for my other plow. It had Category 1 pins on it. Someone had cut off one of the upright standards on the front, Bent the h@#$ out of the wheel and broke the hub. Knowing that the coulter hub is the same I proceeded to remove it. It was froze to the axle. After some penetrating fluid and using a BFH it came loose. After removing the wheel and disassembling it I managed to pretty well straighten it with some judicious use of the BFH. It still has a slight wobble and a hitch in its get along but is in well enough condition for plowing. The coulter is bent and I may try to press it straight again.
After cleaning and painting the wheel and bracket will go onto the 782 plow. If I could find a replacement 12" plow share I could refurbish this plow.
I can find 10" plow shares but not a 12" The picture of the bent coulter blends into the table but show it running off to the right.

Did some price searching,,,,
New hub......$65.93
New coulter...$19.50
New axle.......$65.28
New 10' share...$67.98
New plow bolts (2).....$.79 each= $1.58
The plow cost me less than half of the cost of a new hub.
Couldn't find any pricing on the depth gauge wheel assembly/bracket.

I have a real nice 10" share here, but shipping would make it nearly new cost.

Worked on cleaning half the garden. My green pepper plants are still spitting out peppers. Tomato plants were all drying up. Grabbed the last few of those and got them out. Then weeded and chopped and turned that part over with the hoe.

When I get the last of my peppers I'll finish the other side. Rabbit pens will need cleaned and I'll use all that to fertilize the garden.

Also had to bury Bonnie. My sons 2 year old black rabbit. She suddenly stopped eating and within 12 hours she was gone. Cooper wanted to fashion a wood cross so we made that and he wrote he name on it. He wasn't as upset as I thought he'd be.

Got the depth wheel painted and assembled.
Installed it on the 782 plow. Can't get it any higher than 5 3/4".
That's less than the 6" depth I intended to plow at.

12” Plow or 10” plow. I may have asked that, or I may have known the answer, but can’t remember. Sorry for asking.

Noel
12". And I put a new plow share on it.
The tip on the old share was 5/8" shorter than new, as was the entire width worn about 1/8".
The local John Deere dealer was able to get one from main dealer in Moline IL.
Deere part #m147646

This Cub Cadet LT1050 I got for free has been hard starting since I got it. It’s indicating valves need adjusted. What would have been a small job ended up off and on most of the day ending with a bigger job. Each side had a stubborn bolt. I soaked, tapped, and heated off and on for a whole day then overnight for one of them. It broke! I drilled then tapped it worked out pretty good. The valve lash was all over the place between 8-12k. I gapped them the recommended specs of 4-6 to 5. It didn’t turn over any faster. I’m going to do it again but this time gap the intakes at 4 then the exhaust at 6. This might let some of the pressure out quicker...not sure.

Going to be preparing it for powder coat with my other bike 2 bike frames. Then ordering a couple missing parts and complete it. Got it cheap enough that I'm going to just attempt to flip it. If market is decent I should stand to make a couple thousand off it.

Plow day got cancelled due to impending rain. So instead of traveling today I piddled in the work shop.
I have this Sears potato plow and made an adaptor to try it with a tractor that has a sleeve hitch.
Member MRMD has some potatoes to dig. We are meeting up with him and his wife for lunch Sunday.
If he hasn't already dug them up I'll let him try it out.
Still not sure how I am going to configure the old potato plow I have.
