What are you currently working on??

Just helped, a little, unload a big pickup load of racked in Oak and Hickory firewood. I need to re-cut a lot of it as it won't go in my splitter and 90% of it needs to be split yet. Might get ambitious later and get the saw fired up and shorted up a bunch. Cut off will burn they way they come off the log. With the warm weather I can't get to the timber off a dirt road. If I go in early enough I can't get back out again. This was a lot easier and for $100 delivered 25 miles can't beat it.

Did some in house chores, ran into town and then finally got in the shop for awhile. I started soaking the disassembled carb from the '55 GMC over the weekend the put it together and got it fired up about 6:30 tonight. Got it adjusted in pretty close but it was too cold to check the timing too. Get it done later.

Got some 1/8 steel plate and welded extensions on to the paddles on my lgt ford thrower. I will add two more paddles to the thrower at some point. So it will throw 4 times a revolution instead of 2 times.

LED shop lights are the bomb! Lights the shop up like a sunny day!

There 10 LED shop lights hung up in there now. But right over the bench, up close, I find that I block the light with my body and can't always see. I like the swing down light so I can get light right in close.

Eye doctor told me my eyes are almost perfect. I could read the smallest line on his chart with both eyes, no problem. But I tell you at the end of the day I can't freaking see anything small! I told him that and he said your eyes are just fatigued at the end of the day and you noticed it more as you get older. It drives me nuts.

At least you got good eyes still, I've been wearing glasses since I was 7. Now I need bifocals bad, I have to remove my glasses to read anything and I have to hold it close, gotten worse over the last year or two. Sure makes welding a pain, can't see what I'm doing even with magnifying lens.

My wife can't see anything without her glasses.

I finished up working on my E-14 Elec-Trak. The electic front lift would only lower and not raise. Turned out to be a faulty switch in the dash. I also fabbed and installed a rod for the brake pedal.
Once the Elec-Trak was driven off the table I placed an A.C. 207E on the table to install a lift mechanism for the mower deck. I purchased this unit with the mower deck but it didn't have the lift handle and brackets. I located some pieces to put on it. I will also need to rebuild the deck. as the spindles are froze up tight. I had to move some tractors and implements in order to get the deck off of the rack it was stored on. so now my back and shoulders are talking to me. im thinking an Aleve before bedtime is a good idea. Will get back on the EK10 today. Moved the coil now the wires are to short. Mount the air cleaner, tighten up some bolts, check out the electrical and a few other minor things. About half way through it will be nap time.

I need to get new glasses, need them for reading and working on anything fairly close, reading the screen. etc but can see distance better without them. On my 3rd pair of tri's now. That took some getting used to. Don't look down when going down steps - just go !

Well I am still winter refreshing this, Here is what RED looked like after the 1st restore about eight years ago. Yea getting old (60ish) sucks. I have prescription bi-focal glasses and the Wal-Mart readers. I use the readers almost all the time. Lately I have been loosing my car keys. leaving the headlights on, and trying to walk through doors before turning the doorknob.

Was decent in the shop this afternoon so worked on the EK a little. Had spark at the battery when the post was touched. Started tracking it down, pulled the ignition switch first. Tiny shot of PB Blaster in the slot, worked the key and checked for contact between the post. All OK now but wasn't before. Then I noticed it - had a John Deer key in it. Worked when I put a Bolens key in. Actually, internal contacts were dirty and the PB cleaned them up. Reason for the short was they had the battery wire and the coil wire hooked together. Problem solved. JD key is on a nail. On to the next problem - the vertical swivel is froze. That should be fun.

I worked on the A.C. B207E today. I got the lift arm and brackets painted. While they were drying I dismantled the spindles from the mower deck, and disassembled them.
The local mower shop is going to hook me up with new bearings, belts and blades. They are closing for the holidays and won't be ordering until after the first of the year. So this project may get put on hold after I install the lift arm.
I don't have the original deflector, but I've got one from a bigger A.C. that I can make fit well enough to use.
I've got enough projects waiting, I may put their names in a hat and blind draw the next one. Rick

I had to work in the barn this morning.....freeing one of my goats from hay rack. We tried to de-horn him when little but it didn't take, now he can get his head through the steel bars but not out. I had to cut the tips of his horns this morning and then use a small scissor jack to bent the bars open to get him out. Still not sure how he got them through in the first place. Be glad when they are gone.

We have Pygmy Goats, 5 of them. Some years ago we had a problem with that once in a while. Combination or cattle panels around the pasture. Now the two with horns can get their head in and out with no problem. Sure do a good job keeping the pasture down. Those are Carolyn's guys I just buy the feed.

In the shop/garage to put the new intake manifold on the 4 wheeler. Turned the forced air heater on for the first time this winter and no flame, just smoke. Another project. Started removing pieces to get at the carb, etc. This meant removing the fuel tank. Service manual says to remove the front fender assembly first to get a two bolts. With a rack mounted over the fenders - I don't think so. Screwdriver blade is on the bolt.Tank Bolt.JPG
Tank Bolt mount.JPG

Air grinder with a small cutter and opened up an access notch so I could get at the two tank mount bolts. Getting the old one out wasn't to bad as it was the older style which is in 2 pieces. New one are one piece. Old Connection.JPG

Got it back together and was picking up tools and saw a short piece of radiator hose. Looked about the right size so had to try it. Yep a good snug fit. Could have used the old manifold end and put this piece of hose between with a couple clamps and saved $24. Will have the hose for another project down the road.Hose Would Have Worked.JPG

Nothing mechanical today, last minute Christmas stuff. I finally was able to get away from the wife long enough while off work to wrap her present and get it under the tree! I hope not but I think I feel a cold coming on too. Sure don't need that right now.
