What are you currently working on??

First I had to work on the reverse osmosis system in the house. Bladder in the tank ruptured and the new tank came in today. Found a cracked fitting so had to go to Menards and get a new one. Then I worked on the MF8E again. I didn't like the angle of the hydraulic cylinder so I removed the carriage that was added to the tractor before I owned it to do another modification. Probably be Monday before I can work on it again.

Got the DC motor and all controls off the treadmill yesterday. Figured out what I would need for pulleys, jack shaft, etc. to get the speed donw to metal lathe speed and still maintain the power. 6K rpm motor so figured the pulleys using 4500 rpm as the mid way range. Plus the lathe has a 5:1 gear reduction to really get it slowed up when needed. McMaster Carr had everything I needed. Thing I do not like is trying to figure out the pulley/belt width with the number/letter designation. Who ever dreamed up that concoction up was sitting on his thinker. Always got my belts by the old belt number or by belt top width and length. Don't get any simpler than that.

I get belts at V-Belt Supply out of Sioux Falls, Roger. Can just buy them by measurements so that is easiest for me.

Three weeks ago I put up one of the HF carports for some temp storage, i finally got to get the back garage empty at my rental/for sale house. 20190309_143707.jpg

Saturday was nice so I decided to move my big girl over, MF1855. Tractor has not seen the sunlight since I parked it in garage in fall 2012 when starter went out and I pulled motor. Had to pump up 3 tires and remove front anti-scalp wheels to fit on my 60" trailer. Now that its home, I may actually work on it, actually its only about an hour worth of work from starting. I had to pry the side of my trailer out to get deck passed.

Working on the engine transplant in the S-16 today, got the engine far enough back together to bolt it into the chassis, wound up ordering a couple of cheap wannabe Kohler fuel pumps, one for this one and the K321 that is going back on to the NH, so that I don't have to leave the engines coming off with a huge dust collection hole in the block.. the one on the S-16 is ancient anyway.
I have the worn out 341 off of the machine, decided to use the carb off of the old engine as it has had gas thru it recently, and was gone thru not long ago too.
While I had the pan off, I pulled the grenade gears. The lower one had a good amount of play in it on the shaft. The upper one that takes the assistance of a chisel and hammer to remove, wow it did crack easy. I can see how if something happens to that little needle bearing within, how those would be destroyed. Getting anxious to hear this other engine run, can't though, til the new fuel pump gets here.i also re lapped the valves and set the clearance on them while out. Almost done just got the parts being transferred over left besides waiting for the fuel pump.

Worked on the Simplicity Broadmoor today. Got it pressure washed. Then I lubed everything. Got a couple small parts to order before it goes up for sale.

Haven't touched any tractor for a while now. Couple nice days then it get down right chilly again. Yesterday afternoon wasn't to bad. Been working getting the wiring, choke, printed circuit, and the controls mounted in a new box for the treadmill motor I am putting on the metal lathe. Parts for the build should be here this week some time.

I've been ordering belts from these folks for years. Fantastic data base, quality belts, & quick ship.

Fair shipping prices too! I recently ordered a belt for my drill press from them. Just for the heck of it I checked epay and I would have only saved about a buck on a buy it now belt with free shipping so I stuck with V-Belt Supply.

Had a lot of errands to run and my laundry to do today on my day off so all I got done in the shop was clean it up from the oil changes yesterday and drain hydraulic oil from the MF8E so I can pull the blade carriage out from under it. Ordered some 3/8" x 3/8" ball tie rod ends for the blade swivel linkage and also bought some MF610 cutting deck parts from member esbbent today.

I took tomorrow and Wednesday off so hopefully will get some stuff done. I need to get on the extension ladder and change a bunch of 4' tubes that burned out when the cold hit. Will try to get that done too.

Got the motor wiring all together and ready for setting it up on the metal lathe. Got box with pillow blocks, shaft a coup of pulleys from McMaster Carr today. Going to try and run the motor direct and see what speed I can get down to. Otherwise will go through a jack shaft set up.

The reed safety switch was replaced with an on/off toggle. I di keep the 15A breaker in the power line coming in Treadmill book says it will operate from 2 to 10 pmh tread speed. Will get the RPM light on the chuck and mark the even and half hundred RPM on the dial.

Not GT related, but some of the money will be applied there! Had several small jobs for a customer. New washers in his Delta sink faucet, replaced a light in his garage with an LED 36" fixture, patched an hole in the garage wall for a new water faucet outside, and last was putting new stool bolts in. Brought home his self-propelled push-type mower and gave it a bath. Got it started easily. Took it back today. Now i'm stiff and sore! But I have a few $ in my pocket!

Picked up a Craftsman 2 stage snow blower from my son Monday. Had not been run in 3 years or more. Has had very little use and he has no use for it now as his drive is the length of his vehicle right in front of the house. Pulled that gas tank and cleaned it out along with the in tank filter. Dropped the carb bowl off and cleaned it up. Both had a bunch of slimy stuff from the untreated gas left in it. Greased up the shaft the speed disc slides on, tightened the cables. Put gas in the tank and left it run out through the carb to flush it out good. Put the bowl back on the carb and the drain plug in. About 4 pumps on the primer, full choke, 2/3 throttle, plugged the electric power cord in and pushed the start button. Nothing. OK, contacts are dirty, tomorrows project. Pulled the recoil start rope and it fired off and ran. Let it run a while to warm up good but would not smooth out without a bit of choke. Little carb adjustment will take care of that. Has the crust breaker augur, power drive and 5 hp Briggs engine. Only paint is wore off the edge of the augur. Rest looks like new. Won't be getting the tractors stuck trying to clear down hill any more. I hope.

Didn't get out to the shop until noon as there was a few pictures my wife wanted hung and a couple other honeydoos first. Got the lights working in the shop first and decided to take off the diffusers too. Quite a bit better light now.

Then I got the plow carriage off the MF8E and up on the welding table. It's the first time I ever removed it in the 27 or so years this tractor has been mine. Will try to change the angle of the cylinder tomorrow.

Startedd out enlarging the bore of a die cast pulley for the treadmill motor. Bought a 5/8 bore and the motor shaft is .671. Worked it out with a flex shaft and dremel sanding drum. Got a good snug fit and locked on with the set screw. Moved to the garage and started on the Bolens EK10 that has been sitting since last winter. Had the outside flange of the 6 grove pulley rebuilt but never got back to it. Put it on with the belts, etc. The rocker pivot was tight so decided to get that freed up while I had it in the garage and tools handy. First step was to drop the snow thrower off. After fighting it for 20 min. went after bigger tools. Hammer, punch and a 4' crow bar got that nasty thing off. Looks like standard equipment to remove the attachments on these. Little heat and several shots of grease from the air grease gun and the freed up good. Decided to drive it around a bit before fighting that snow thrower again. That didn't work - no fire to the plug. Got the point cover half off and that is as far as it will go. Power to the points but no further. Lot of moisture in there. Could hardly see the points let along get to them. Removed the carb main jet in the side of the bowel for a better look. Not a lot of help there. Tried cleaning the but hard to get anything between the points. Looks like the engine has to come at least part way out to get at the points enough to do anything with them. Starting to wish I never seen a darn EK and I have 2 of them. Once I get them running they will either have a new home or parked in the back corner and forget I ever seen them. My back is killing me so time to quit for the the day.
