What are you currently working on??

Still working on the MF8E when time permits. Painted the parts I had to weld on.

Draining the transaxle, removed one hub, but there was a broken bolt on the other. Easy out wouldn't do it yet, letting it soak with Kroil overnight. A previous owner was kind enough to drill into the broken bolt but he had no luck obviously. If the Kroil doesn't do it by tomorrow I'll get out the torch and heat it up a bit. Just trying to put new axle seals in. May end up drilling it out bigger yet.

Got some tie rod ends in the mail yesterday to work on the blade angle linkage too.

Fixing my CF retractable air hose.
After 5 years the CH retractable air hose drained my air tank when I was airing up a tire today. This thing is uber useful in the shop. I could hear air leaking and figured it must be the “O” rings. I have a good assortment so I decided on a quick tear down and repair. I split the case and released the pre-tension on the spring (6 full turns). Then I opened up the spring side, and seeing nothing doing there I closed it back up before the spring decided to exit the case. On the other side I removed the inlet hose and the brass fitting which is held on with a “C” clip. Removed another cover plate to expose the ratchet assembly. From there the shaft could be removed making it easy to remove the brittle “O” rings. Figures I don’t have the correct size. May make a trip to the hardware store tomorrow.

I run into the same thing a while back. Air leak at the brass supply hose connection. Had the right diameter but no thick enough. Replaced them with what I had and a nice dab of grease and put it back together. Still leaks but not near as bad.

My White died right outside the shed door a couple days ago. Won't start again. Hope to get down and check for fire at the plugs, pull the gas tank and fix a crack in it while it is dead anyway. Started good after sitting all winter, with a bit of encouragement of course. Old Briggs twin opposed.

Hit a deer a couple of months ago, or should say, it hit me....Last few days been hammering out the dent. Truck isn't worth much, but just trying to make it look a bit better.

That was a pretty good lick. Looks like you got a lot of it out.

I watched a guy on youtube do a paintless dent removal on dent like that, even had creases, it looked almost perfect when he got done, amazing the talent.

Got down to the stalled White this morning. Checked for spark and looked nice and blue. Pulled the choke, 1/2 throttle, switched the fuel pump on and turned it over a couple times and away it went. Fuel will feed to the carb when the tank is full and down to about 1/3 left. Then have to use the pump. Engine fuel pump is bad so just put an electric one on and switched it. that way I only run it when needed. Drove it back in the shed and pulled the fuel tank. It had afew cracks right where the hold down nuts were molded in on the bottom. Put a screw in from the outside with a fender washer and JB Weld. Covered the inside with JB Weld also. Missed one short crack so will use a soldering gun to see if I can weld it shut. One a rounded part of the bottom next to the fender washer. Will put a 1/4" piece of wood under the tank but not under the hold down bolts to keep the pressure off the bad spots and see how that works out.

And two different sets of "O" rings, and still not fixed. the 3567B is close but fits loose in the grove and got chopped on installing the fitting, the 3/32 is too thick and I can't get the fitting on.

Not a good day with the MF8E project. I did get that hub off but broke an ezout doing it. Got the piece out and drilled more as I figured if I have to drill over I'll just put in a heli coil. Then the hub was still fairly tight coming off so I put a 3 finger puller on it to give it some pressure as I didn't want to break the hub. I gave it a couple whacks with a hammer to get it moving and the whole dang axle came out. I broke the splines off the end of the axle where a snap ring held it in place. This may be a terminal problem for the whole tractor. I'm about ready to part out what's left.

I'll talk to the machinist at work to see if a repair can be done.

Going to replace the gas tank in the White 1655 with a 2 gal. plastic gas container. Tired of trying to patch the old one and it keeps on leaking. Stress cracks from the moulded in mounting studs. The old tank is about 3 gallons so putting a 2 gal in should not be a fit problem.

Easy fix on the fuel tank. Got the old tank out and drained.
SAM_0979.JPGSAM_0980.JPG

Replacement is sitting by the old one.
SAM_0981.JPG

Shut off installed on the replacement. Drilled the hole 1/64th smaller for a tighter fit.

SAM_0982.JPG

Tank is in and held down. Poked a small hole in the vent cap for air.

SAM_0983.JPG

Fuel line on and out of the way. Can get at the shut off much easier now. Filter is about an inch off the bottom of the tank so any foreign stuff that may get in should not be a problem.

Hehe, you can keep the snow Doug, but you could give me the 55 GMC so I can drive it around, Hehe

Noel

Ha, Noel! I don't want the snow either but with any luck "they" are wrong! This long cold winter has definitely reduced the amount of seat time I get in the '55. If it's windshield wasn't so darn hard to scrape, I might would drive it more in the winter. Too lazy I guess.

A few weeks ago I picked up a 4" Bessey Spring clamp, new with the tag at the "Its $5" store for $1.25. (4 for $5 day). Called Bessey and they do not have parts for that clamp as it is discontinued. This morning I decided it was time to fix it and get it off the bench. The trigger or engagement lever was broken off just past the hinge pin hole.
Bessey Clamp.JPG

Started with a tooth brush handle and with the stub piece I had left and pictures from the Bessey web site I got a part shaped and put in. Work good as new now and even adds a little class to the clamp. The part I made is the pink piece that engages and disengages the ratcheting dog that lock/unlocks the clamp. $20 clamp back in working condition.

DAC. Did you get the snow on Saturday, you thought you were going to get. ?
I moved all my tractors outside today. I have to get my truck in and repair the box. Rust is eating away at it. One corner is moving while driving. Frame is still good. So it’s worth fixing up for another year or two.
Truck works great, but the rust is taking its toll.
