What are you currently working on??

Last rummage nightmare (sale) we had I put a 5 gallon heavy glass water bottle in it for 5 bucks. Guy down the road said he would give me 2 bucks. Pissed me off as it was cheap already for what it was. I told him I will fill it with water, put it on a fence post and blast it with my 12ga and get more than 5 bucks worth of fun. He got mad and left. Came back later and gave my wife the 5 bucks for it. I'm not good enough of a people person to deal with the morons. Advertise the sale for 8am and they are beating on the door at 6am, wondering why the sale hasn't started! Sorry, had to vent a bit---LOL!

The stuff I thought would leave outta here in the first hour 2 days ago is still here ... Crickets.
Nobody even asking about... Drills saws grinders from the 1960s to the 80s... Stuff that will still be working when today's Horror freight/ box store crap is burnt out and tossed.. not a soul is interested.
Got a Lincoln tombstone out here, the good one with both AC and DC polarity and again crickets. Was my birthday present from dad when I turned 18/39 years ago.

Guess this is best place to put this......

Alan (MH81) says hi. I told him to stop over, but he said life is pretty busy to get back onto forums and such. He posts on our Sears Suburban FB group maybe every 6 months so he's not on social media much.
Tell him hi back, Marty. I texted him a while back but never got a reply.

Took the battery out of the neighbor lady's Murray today after getting back from running around in town with Loree. Looked in and smelled the gas and it still seems like it might be ok. Checked the oil and it was clean but a bit overfull. Are these opposed I/C-B/S two cylinders pretty good engines? Never had one before. I know the single cylinder I/C's were tough engines. Seems like the tires still have air but didn't take a pressure gauge. She said it ran last summer but I don't remember it moving for a couple years. Put the battery on trickle charge and it seems to be taking it. Will let it charge overnight. She must have gotten the battery at Runnings. Dated 2019 with an engraver. Thats what they do here at that store.

I think it must be a hydro since it says "automatic".

The tractor doesn't really seem to be in too bad of shape. If I can get it started I will bring it over to my shop blow it off and check it out better. Don't really want to do it in those weeds---LOL!

Yea I've had good luck with those twin I/C's.
With the foot pedal, I would assume that it's a hydro. I think that's the last era of them making a half way decent power that wasn't just throw away

Me and my dad got the charging system working on my 8n yesterday. He actually did most of the work since I don’t know much about electrical stuff. It would have originally had a 6 volt generator, but it was converted to a 12v alternator at some point. I put a new alternator on it a couple weeks ago, but it still didn’t charge. I guess there is a few different ways that work to wire them for 12v, but the way it was wired before did not seem to be one of them. It’s charging good at 14.7 volts now. We did hook something up wrong the first time and fried the key switch, so I will have to get a new one. We just put a toggle switch that my dad had laying around in there for now so I can still use the tractor. It didn’t seem to hurt anything else luckily. I still have to tie up some wires behind the dash, and we had to add a light bulb too, I guess that has something to do with shutting the tractor off, so I will have to find somewhere to mount that.

And I found a wrench that someone dropped down in the frame in front of the engine. Surprisingly it is a Snap-On!

The next thing I plan to do is get the headlights working. They are not currently hooked up.

Was at a local swap meet yesterday and spotted a set of 33# wheels weights I thought would fit my Craftsman lt1000 8” rear wheels. Asked the woman what she wanted and she said $60. Enough I thought and left them go not sure if they’d fit anyway.
Anyway did a little homework and found that they would fit and they’re kind of hard to come by and their prices weren’t really that bad.
So I went back today not long before they were getting to pack up not even knowing if they’d be there and asked a different guy want he wanted for them and he said $15 bucks for both.
So it paid to wait another day.

We got a free Yard Machines 17Hp V-twin Briggs rider this weekend.
- faded paint
- dry rotted front tires, both flat
- dead as a door nail battery
- rotted out seat
- wrong belts (all 3 of them)
- front headlight bar ripped off and missing
- it runs and moves forwards and back. :)
- deck is good and blades are nice.

This looks better than the one we got.

Had one of those engines in 1994 Huskee. I used it until about 2015.
Still running/mowing when I sold it.

Sounds like a good engine! The only B/S twin I have is a V cylinder version, vertical crank.

That battery seems to be holding a charge after being off the charger for around 30 hours. Too crappy of weather to go try it out.

Thanks for the input, Rick and Marty!

I rebuilt an opposed twin 15 hp a couple years ago. Went .39 over on the piston with rods. Cam and crank were good. I think it inhailed s acrew as both walls were scored. Finally put some time on it last week in an IH 782 with 50" deck. Need to adjust the high rpm on it as I don't think i t is running near as fast as it shoud. Nice smoother running mower though so may just leave it.

I don't have fake book. I've listed some garage sale leftovers on my wife's though. Why in the HELL do people insist on making offers by messaging without having made the effort to physically come and SEE the item for themselves? I never offer anything til I can see hear feel what I'm looking at for myself

Have a new carb on the way for a trim mower we bought back in the 2014. Briggs motor, high wheel that Carolyn can start and use easily. First time anything has been done outside of oil change and blade sharpening. Still has the B&S spark plug and it looks goodn and starts it right off. Just wont stay running. For $14 not messing with it. Should have done that with the 1862 cub right away instead of chasing the dogs tail for a couple weeks.

I don't even know how many of the Chinese carbs that I have used. All worked fine including a Rochester MV clone on the 230 six in the '55 GMC. I got real tired of fighting that 1960's one. Truck has been running great for many years now. The factory carb on the Predator 13 horse had been a bit rich since I put that engine in the MF12G almost 10 years ago. That's the only one that has a bit of an issue. Can't seem to get it leaner even with jet changes. Did try one cheap carb on it and the same thing. Long as I don't let it idle too long it runs great.

most recent was a Toro snow blower, newer paddle wheel style, 2 cycle Briggs. Ran great 2 years ago before I left the gas in it. Would barely run this past season. I'm glad I didn't need it much this past winter. Bought Chinese carb "kit" Primer bulb that came with wouldn't fit the recess, (too big) and I cannot get this thing to run at all since bolting that Chinese piece of crap onto it. I have the original boiled out, will be getting gaskets and needle/seat and putting that back on. I've tried Briggs ones (regular 4 cycle ones) Kohler ones, and Echo ones. I'm O-fer. Yet I can take a "not fubarred as bad as my original" used, original carb on all those listed so far and they run fine. I've had decent luck finding OEM NOS carbs for a reasonable price for those that the originals weren't successful on as well.

Got the carb yesterday. Won't go on today as we are making the annual cemetery run today. Only issue I had with the Chinese carb is the seat would not hold the pressure of the OEM fuel pump in the Polaris Ranger. Once I got the float set right and a 2.5 psi fuel pump put on it ran fine for a couple years, then the engine gave out. Swapped in a few years newer engine with a lot less miles on it. Had the OEM carb rebuilt at a Polaris dealership and it is still running great but I have the Chinese replacement just in case.

There is another website for Lawn Tractor Wheels.
Two new wheels on rims with tubes for $59 shipped.
We'll see how long it takes for the arrival.

One wheel like this on Amazon was $60, a pair for $115.
