What did you do with your tractor today?

Y9ou guys keep that winter weather up there for another couple months yet. Not ready for it by any means. I better get with it and move a couple tractors around, put a thrower on one and a rear blade on another. Have a pile of wood to split yet also. Would split a load in the Ranger today but out in the open on the South side of the huse to get it in where it can be used would be misserable.

We have another day and half or so before that NW front moves in from the Dakotas. Will get a couple water heaters out and going this morning. Might get out and do some deer hunting this evening. Seems like every time I plan that I have something else to do around the house for Carolyn. Getting to be a load trying to get my stuff done and get all the meals, the clean up, the chores, feed the birds, get her to PT, pick up eggs, then start all over again. Getting my back worked on Friday will seam like a vacation. Rant in the wrong place but its over.

So finally starting to get caught up on serving tractors for winter and next summer. Summer one are now stored away.
Finally getting to the tractor that blew up its engine last January. Another engine, a kohler k321 14 hp was fixed up to put in this tractor. Had to weld an engine mount back to the frame, that was broken off. All bad weak rotted rubber mounts were takin out and metal blocks welded in, with holes to mount to the engine mount brackets. This engine will be solid to the frame. Like the older ford tractors.

Now Doug DAC, don’t you look at these pictures. We all know how you get when you see this. Hehe.

Also serviced a generator my son borrowed after hurricane Fiona.

Not with any of my machines but with my son's Kubota and it's bucket
In the last 2 days I had dug trenches on each side of my rock driveway with my mantis tiller 1-1/2 "swipes" wide and used the bucket on the front to shovel out the tiller dirt (and gravel) from the trenches I made, so I could drop telephone poles in them to retain the gravel "in" the driveway instead of sprawling out towards the grass.
Today we dropped the poles into the trenches and slid them up towards the garage as far as they would go, then dropped in the next section end to end. I had 33' on each side, we got 6 poles to make up the distance, 3 per side. Lotsa difference in pole diameter between the fattest and the skinniest pole, 10-1/2" down to 7-1/2.
Having that bucket on the front of a tractor sure made lining up the poles then backfilling the yard side with the dirt I pulled out and the driveway side with the gravel sure was easier than how I usually have to do such jobs....

And my son had borrowed my ariens GT with the tiller way back in the spring time, he finally brought it back today, after I was done digging with the little mantis of course. Now to pull the tiller off so I can mount the snow blower. Gonna have to either set the skids high or swap them out for some push mower deck wheels because of the new gravel that won't have enough time to pack down before snow flies

Oh while we had the bucket tractor at my house we have been talking for like 3 years now about getting the hot tub out of the attached garage that I haven't had wired up since I put the OSB on the walls and ceiling some years back (I had unwired it and drained it so we could move it/work around it) and finally got it out and onto my trailer so I can finally get it to his house.
With only the 2 of us loading that was actually quite interesting as to how we were able to load it.
My trailer is like 6" narrower than the base of the hot tub, so we got it high enough for me to back under it and set it on the rails. We wrapped semi truck ratchet straps around it and the bucket mount, and I put my old end lift jack under the opposite side and were able to just get the trailer underneath it. He ran the tractor while I jacked up the end lift jack across from him.

I see nothing----LOL!

It’s alive, but not sure for how long. Engine we were putting the ford finally. Is in and got it running this morning. But a noise in it. Started up great. Ran it for twenty minutes at 2000 rpm. Then changed the oil. Still have a few service things to do to the tractor. Need a blower belt. Get the tins on. Service and install the blower.
So, slowly making my way to hibrrrnation, which should of started November first !

Noel

So far the solid bolted engine is going to be good, for what we can see.
A little smoke from the oil I put in the cylinder, for start up.

I put a Vanguard 16 hp in a Cub 1650 and it is bolted down solid. Also a Briggs L head in a IH782 bolted solid. No reason why it wont work on a balanced engine. Single cylinder I would think twice.
I’m hoping to get my Cub 1250 back together over the winter. I’m thinking of doing a solid mount rather than the factory rubber mounts. I’ve asked dozens of Cub guys and most are one way or another.

Well, Noel, I'm going to give you the same advice you gave me when I was concerned about my K321 making a noise---"Kohler's are noisy, just run it!" So Far so good on my end at least! That engine looks identical to mine too. "Q Series" I think Gary may have called it? Q for quiet. Not so sure about that---LOL! Mine had 3 good rubber mounts and finding one more on the net was pretty easy so after welding on one new mount plate which was broken, it is all rubber mounted again.

I put some very similar automotive sway bar bushings in a Cub 1450 awhile back... they fit and worked as well as an oem IH part.

a noisy Kohler is an engine thats nearing the end of its servicable lifespan... when they are rebuilt they are actually very quiet engines except for the exhaust.

Thanks Doug. I said that to my son yesterday. Because he questioned the noise. But after the twenty minute break in and oil change it was much louder. So I think it’s not gunna last. I must have done something wrong when I put it together. I’m just a backyard yahoo, with limited tools and money to fix stuff. So not sure what to do at this point. Son and I both feel that it won’t last. It sound like a small hammer tapping a piece of metal. Would love to put a twin engine in it. But those and the older motors are hard to find.
Any way. Just my luck.
