What did you do with your tractor today?

I hated to do it but I had to move a couple out of my shop because of a cabinet job coming up. We had 4" yesterday but the killer was the rain we have had this winter. Every third day or so rain all day with very little sunshine. I'm definitely putting a shed or barn up this year.

Ever think of an old mobile home for a wood shop? My wood shop is on a 24 X 70' and works out good. As long as you don't have to stand any plywood on end. Can usually get them cheep too. Got mine for $300, neighbor moved it with his big tractor. Gutted most of the interior walls, new entrance box and a few new outlets, changed the lights out to fluorescent and moved in. $100 for a used furnace, no heat runs, works out good.

Cub fired off yesterday afternoon so went out a moved a bunch of snow out of the drive and a path or two to the bird feeders. Wind was out of the NW and swirling around the buildings and I got covered with snow a couple times. Got in my eye once and had to stop and grab the handkerchief to wipe them out. Next time will put the goggles on like I should have this time. 20/20 hind sight.

Went to the old wood stack with the 81 and the trailer. Loaded, went to start and the bendix wouldn’t engage.
Main spring broke. Lucky I had a spare.

Was darker than my wife’s mood when I got back to the farm.
Have to unload tomorrow

Times like that is when you wish you had the crank on the nose yet.
Yeah, I almost got it to stay running with a bump start... Grr
As for manual starting...
It has the spot, and I have a crank, but I'm not sure how many men could crank start this particular engine.
25 yrs ago, it had a significant increase in compression and if you stall it when it's hot, the starter isn't enough to crank it.
One time, at a pull, another tractor pulled me and the tires just slid for 15+ ft before it would turn over.

I used the Sears to fetch the log splitter out of the back lean too. Old girl has not been started in 2 yrs, took about 10 pulls but she finally fired up.
Since it was a balming 35*, I needed to get some wood split for the upcoming ploar freeze, split 2 piles this size. Took about 1/2 of one to basement, filled my pile back up and covered it. Needed motor protection, had an old metal hay rack by barn, it sat on ground and worked perfectly.
My little queen of the hill couldn't wait till I was finished so she could climb up there.

I bought a rounded pickup load of Oak and Hickory delivered. He had it cut for his outside furnace so a lot of it was to long for our fireplace. Ended up with a lot of 6-8" blocks. Split most of it but seems I always get in a hurry and don't get enough split small for starting the fire and mixing it in with the rest. Have about 3 large yard carts in the wood shed lean to but would have to blow out a path to get in and out. Had to much rain to get to the timber where my wood supply is. 1/2 mile down a hilly dirt road.

Don't hardly split kindling any more. When I fry bacon I wipe out the skillet with paper towels which I throw in a gallon jar for storage. When I want a fire I stick in a couple pieces of wood with a paper towel between light the towel and watch it burn. This will usually even start rounds but half rounds are faster. Don

That fire must smell delicious!!!

Works on smaller wood. I put news paper wads under the kindling and splash of #1. Gets it goin but most of my wood is 8" plus stuff split 4 ways. Hickory is a little hard to start with but sure burns hot.

Been too cold to work in the garage much. I decided to make a seat for the MF12h I will restoring this summer. The only issue is I didn't have the old one to use as a pattern like I had for the 195 case. After a couple of weeks the back rest is doneIMG_20190127_143223031.jpg. The bottom cushion needs a little more work, instead of being stapled to wood the vinyl has to be glued to sheet metal.IMG_20190127_163942231.jpg
