What did you do with your tractor today?

Looks like the tractor was up to the task, Jim! You got some big old boulders there to try not to mow. Since it seems they grow right out of the ground, I'm surprised there's none on our acre. I can't seem to grow anything so you would think rocks at least would sprout---LOL!

Noel and Dac my Sears SS15 is a work horse. I’ve been running chains and 55 lb. wheel weights on turfs for several years with very good results. I did mess up and loaded the trailer with rocks before I started pulling the bigger ones out. I had to pull them out in reverse but the ole girl didn’t even grunt.

Close as I ever got to a Sears, is that I got a late 60's Sears Suburban mowing deck out of the scrap trailer at work. Don't know what I'll ever do with it but it couldn't go to scrap!

That's a great workhorse, Jim! My favorite kind of GT!

We are going out of town for the day tomorrow so no "Mowing Monday" report. I did do it today though! Dry and dusty, a lot of the yard didn't really need it but it's done again. MF12G on our acre, and used that Bolens/MTD LT on the front half of the acre next door again. Soon as I got done with our yard I brought the MF12G in the shop and changed the oil. The electric oil pump I use to pull the old oil out wants the oil to be hot. That went fine too. Had lunch after that, then got on the LT and headed next door.

Had Grunt out digging potatoes and ploughed up where the two cobbler potatoe rows were.

I picked up one ord tractor several years ago. Got it for a 12 pack of Bud light. Found the motor was wore out and had no power and run hot. Traded to a kid for a short days labor. Bought one Sears and pulled the Onan to put in a Bolens when I got it home. The Sears is in the scrap pile as noone wanted any parts except the fenders. Bolens will go there as it ended up with a bad gear in the rear end. Still have the Onan engine for ? ? ?

Had Grunt out cultivating today. Kinda wet. But weeds quickly got away from me. Will have to do it again very soon. If it ever dries up.

Brought the Cub Cadet 50C deck up, washed it off good and wiped it down with thinner rag. Brushed on a coat of Valspar CC matched paint to improve the looks a bit. PO kept the belt cover on and of course that is where the deck rots out at. No holes yet so hopefully the Valspar with preserve it for a few years.

I got a Mowing Monday report! It was brutally hot, even though I got an earlier start. Work 12 hours yesterday wore me down so I just didn't get going in the coolest part of the day. It was a 100F before noon and 102F when I finished up. Didn't even eat lunch until 4pm.

One minor incident with the MF12G. It started bogging a bit and rpms hunting around some. Shut it down and cleaned the cottonwood off the air filer and recoil housing. Ran fine after that. Got on the Bolens/MTD to do the yard next door. It ran good, but the first two speeds didn't feel right. Got the yard done and was finishing up the ditch and there was a couple of banging noises, and it quit moving. Engine still running fine. It had to break at the furthest away spot in that yard from my shop too. I didn't have any help so I woke up the MF8E and we went to rescue the LT. Grabbed a tow strap and a couple bungee cords. Pulled it out of the ditch, bungeed the steering wheel straight and towed it home!
IMG_0519.JPG

Looks like one or both of the drive belts broke. Too hot to check into it any further.
IMG_0520.JPG IMG_0523.JPG

The belts were new at the beginning of mowing season, so I must not have had something adjusted correctly.

It was even more important to get the mowing done today rather than it being a 10 hour break from being on call at work. This coming Saturday we are going to Denver, CO area for a week, to do some stuff for and with my older sisters. The oldest is 75 and lives alone. She was under the weather for quite a while last spring and got behind on things she wanted to do around her house. She feels better now but needs some help to catch up.

Your busy Doug. To bad about the belts. Great that your helping out your sister.

Noel
Thanks, Noel! Not sure what went wrong for the belt or belts break. Need to do more research on adjusting I guess.

My other sister down there is 73 and married. Her husband isn't a fixer so he isn't any labor help and has a few health issues of his own. He's a good guy but he just pays to have his stuff done. Wish they lived closer.

Today is grass cutting day. Going to use the YT16H Ford at my sons place, my land too and sister in laws. 48” cut. About 2 1/2 hours worth. Then do my own lawn at home with a Yardworks lawn mower. That’s today’s jobs.
