What did you do with your tractor today?

So had a little snow. So took the bucket off the loader and put the Plow on. About 10 minutes to change. Did some plowing. Snow blowing much faster and makes a better job. But the Plow is also good if you didn’t have a snow blower and is fun to use, at times.

Going to get the Satoh 370D out and haul some firewood to the house. Got hard on the supply last Saturday. Have enough on had for a week or more but like to stay ahead of it. Will try and remember to get some pics but no promisses.

So had the Case 224 out too. Cleaned the grass, oh oh , I mean the driveway. Hehehehe. Any way, worked good, belt stayed on. Case throwers don’t seem to throw as far as my other ones, but gets rid of the snow. Might throw better with more snow. Today’s was light, fluffy and not deep.

There’s a lot of those upgrades to do to make the thrower/blower turn fast to put the snow out farther, but, ya gotta have the hp to do that, or as you get into the heavy stuff the engine will slow down and your throwing distance will shorten. Just think of a car with a V8, and 3.08 differential gears. Change the gearing to 4:10. The difference is amazing. Power thru all gears, the 3:08 car will be sluggish thru the gears. The 3:08 car will go faster, but when it hits a steep hill in high gear, it will drop speed. The 4:10 car May slow a little on steep hills, but will keep the revs up and be going, with out down shifting. Same thing with a snow blower or thrower. I know, I slowed the speed down in my Ford blower and it worked much better. Still thru the snow good. Not much different. And did have to slow down and let the engine speed back up, before the gearing change. Stop and go, stop and go, with the reduction in blower speed, I could keep a steady speed pace.
Just my experience. Yours will be different.

You are sure willing to spend more time out in the snow than I am---LOL! I know you needed to test the Case 224, Noel! Doesn't look like it tore up the grass---er driveway at all!

Gear drive tractor with a snow thrower/blower is not always a good combination. Easy to control the amount of snow feed with a hydro. Different areas get different types of snow too. Usually around here it is wet and heavy so need to get rid of it quick and move into it slow and easy like.

I usually get my tractors ready for plowing sometime in November, but I have been busy with other things and we haven’t really had enough snow to plow yet anyways. They are calling for snow tomorrow night into Friday, not really looking like much but they said it could be enough to shovel and plow. Last night I put the chains on my 125, that’s ready to go. I took the mower deck off my 149, tonight I’m going to put the plow and chains on that, and I have to steal a set of wheel weights off another tractor for it.

I got tired of swapping wheel weights back and forth. One pair of Ag's are filled with washer fluid. Weights are on the other tractors that need them and stay on them.
The IH weights are only 26 lbs, so they are not that bad to change. I have one set that I got with the 149 and never put on yet, then the other set is on my 1450, which doesn‘t really need them. They are both going on this. The ones on my 125, you can sort of see them inside the wheels in the first picture, are heavy. Never weighed them, but I would guess around 100 lbs. I had to take one off to put a tube in the tire, that was not fun.

I have 2 - 75 lb weights on the 1650 Cub with thrower. Used a small floor jack and blocks to get them on. They are Cub Cadet branded weights, concrete with plastic covering. Look nice till you scraps the plastic off.

Those are some massive weights on the 125! Does your plow blade angle while sitting on the tractor? I can see the lift bracket but not for angle.
Reason I ask is my MF8E uses a Cub blade just like that. I have a hydro lift but never have figured out how to angle the blade without getting off of the tractor.

Looks like you have some kind of a dirt track racer sitting on the wheel dollies? I see a bare Chevy small block back there too!

No, you have to get off and pull the pin up to angle it. They did have a hydraulic angle kit for the newer tractors that had front hydraulic ports, but I don’t have any of them. Is the lift on your tractor factory, or did you add it?

Good eye, there are actually two, sportsman modifieds. They are my dad’s. That block is broken. He had that engine rebuilt, and it turned out the oil pump they used was bad, it blew up in the first race.
